Laboratory Maniac could be a funny win con when you deck out with prime speaker or fathom mage

Steaditup I completley forgot about Mycosynth Lattice, It plus Tezzeret the Seeker would let my tutor for my enitre deck. thanks for the suggestion!

It doesn't turn cards not on the battlefield into artifacts, it turns them colorless. What it does is give you more of what liquimetal coating gives you, and it fixes your mana. It also lets you cast artifact removal on anything.

Mycosynth Lattice does however let you use Eye of Ugin to tutor up any creature not just eldrazi

You mentioned you were worried about decking yourself with Fathom Mage orPrime Speaker Zegana...

Well, I can think of two potential solutions. If you're feeling aggressive, try running Psychic Spiral, or on a more passive scale, try Elixir of Immortality.

Laboratory Maniac if decking yourself is a real problem

Wow, there's a lot to take in with this deck. I'm stealing the Freed from the Real + Pentad Prism combo, but might have to look again. +1 all the way.

If you can, could you look at my Counters Quest (new set changes. Advice) and give it the must-have suggestions. Also, what do you think to Den Protector as potential Eternal Witness replacement?

windowlessvan says... #10

DavidBray I definitely think Den Protector could replace Eternal Witness since it essentially becomes unblockable if you pump it up enough with Vorel

Vigor? Sage of Fables combos with Lorescale Coatl and Chasm Skulker, and draws you plenty of cards without them, though it may not be worth a slot. Just a thought. I have one in my Zegana deck and she is hella useful. She has pros an cons when compared to Zamek Guildmage, though the latter has more pros I think.

I think you should put in Thrummingbird and Contagion Clasp and Inexorable Tide

have you thought about Druids' Repository. It works similarly to Pentad Prism, but it is easier to make it stay viable as it can get counters if it runs out. I run both because it adds more consistency.

Thanks for the suggestion Eric1827. The problem for me with Druids' Repository is that it is an enchantment and Vorel can't target enchantments. I could still generate a lot mana with it using Vorel's ability if I have Liquimetal Coating in play, but that requires more setup than Pentad Prism. As you said in your post running both adds consistency but I prefer having Everflowing Chalice as my secondary mana-producer.

You could definitly add some eldrazi or super big creatures like Worldspine Wurm with all the mana you'll be getting. Not sure what to take out, but they would be great beat down cards.

April 14, 2015 12:41 p.m.

Add an eldrazi titan if you are worried about decking yourself I also recommend using several counterspells in the deck just to help yourself deal with any board wipes or troublesome things (a reanimator deck with Vampire Hexmage would probably be a problem)

Experiment Kraj + Illusionist's Bracers + Kiora's Follower = awesome good time for the untapping your field and doing it all over again. I know it is a lot, but hey why not have a little fun. Plus Kraj taps to add more +1/+1 counters to your field.

I love Vorel and he was my first commander deck. I have been adjusting and testing it for a while now. I had most of the same cards in my deck when I first started but after playtesting I have noticed a few things. Draining Whelk costs too much for a counter, I would recommend a cheaper counter or if you want to give all your creatures flying try Wonder. Lorescale Coatl is okay but it doesn't do anything else, try out Vedalken Anatomist he can give negative counters and can also be used to untap your creatures. Prime Speaker Zegana will just give you a few cards once and not much else after. Sapphire Drake costs too much when you can just use Wonder. Lux Cannon will still take at least a full turn to use even if you can double it a few times, maybe try out Wickerbough Elder you can get repeated use for destroying artifacts or enchantments. I have used Teferi, Temporal Archmage just for untapping Vorel so I just replaced him with Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir to stop others from countering you and for the flash. Cards you may want to consider TriskelionSeedborn MuseBow of NyleaGilder BairnExperiment KrajQuicksilver ElementalMindless AutomatonPemmin's AuraRings of Brighthearth.

Just for playtesting, your 5 unfoil islands aren't appearing in the deck.

Strionic Resonator would be great for copying the Bracer's or other stuff's ability again.

Have you thought about running Tangle Wire? It can lock people from the game very easily with vorel.

woah woah woah on this Illusionist's Bracers stuff. You could get away with replacing it with the far better Rings of Brighthearth -- or better yet run both and copy everything!

Dunno if it ever really was or still is an issue, but Fathom Mage won't deck you because it says "may."

Does Sage of Hours get any work done? I count only 3 spells that can target him and of them maybe one you'd want to, and 6 other ways to get counters on him all of which are kinda awkward to pull off. That sort of dependency is pretty rough. I much prefer Lighthouse Chronologist over there in your Maybeboard.

I cut nearly all the Planeswalkers from my Vorel deck after seeing how underwhelming they were for the cost without Doubling Season out (and I suppose in your case, Liquidmetal Coating). Tamiyo was the biggest offender, Kiyora is a 4 drop Explore, Jace I'd rather just see Fact or Fiction. Garruk is alright, helping you ramp and giving your guys trample, Tezzeret I guess is there to tutor up win-cons. I like Freyalise because she's ramp, removal (which you're pretty low on) and card advantage, and I can dig Teferi because he basically lets you Vorel again on your turn.

Cyclonic Rift is a must have in blue with very few exceptions, and I don't think this deck is one of them. Early game it might save your bacon from a cheated out Blightsteel or pissed off Rafiq, and late game it resets everyone's board but your own at instant speed.

Etched Oracle, Mindless Automaton and Novijen Sages are the best card advantage Vorel will ever know. You've doubtlessly seen how quickly even 2 counters multiply with Pentad Prism, get any of these cards going and you can dig through 10+ cards easily while building a big scary creature.

Green Sun's Zenith is basically running a 2nd Prophet of Kruphix in your deck for +1 mana.

Hey thanks for the feedback FancyTuesday! Your comment really shows your understanding of how Vorel works as a commander.

To respond to some of your advice,Sage of Hours is really only in the deck because I keep putting off getting a Lighthouse Chronologist.

With regards to some of the planeswalkers I am running, kiora and tamiyo help keep big threats in check and act as political cards with their first abilities.

You are absolutely right about Cyclonic Rift. I'm not really sure why I haven't added that card yet.

Mindless Automaton and Novijen Sages are probably going to get added to the deck. Etched Oracle seems like the worst of the three and since deckspace is tight it more than likely won't make the cut.

When I play this deck with my friends, I tend to avoid using my Prophet of Kruphix to make the game more enjoyable and to not put a target on my back. I could go for a competitive approach and run the Green Sun's Zenith like you suggested, but it would make for a less enjoyable experience for my playgroup.

I'd suggest Avatar of the Resolute because he has trample and reach... Umezawa's Jitte could be a win con as well.
