Gyre Sage can become obscene if left alone with Vorel, just like any creature that gets counters.

I used to run Fertilid in my own Vorel deck, but found that I rarely had the chance to get value from him, so I opted for Skyshroud Claim. Also found Scute Mob to not be great, consider Thrummingbird instead. Obviously if these cards are working for you leave em in, just my thoughts.

Greater Good is an amazing response to the inevitable spot removal that will get thrown at your ginormous fatty. Also, if you never play against token decks, Primal Vigor usually benefits you way more than the opponentn.

I appreciate the feedback alecm.

Gyre Sage used to be in the deck for a while put i ended up cutting it because while the extra mana was great, I found using Pentad Prism to be more useful. Granted it takes more to set up and maintain but it gives me both blue and green mana.

Fertilid is one of the most useful creatures in the deck. He acts as a political tool using his ability to give my opponents land, he is a repeatable ramp card, and he can either kill opponents outright or be used to force your opponent(s) to play a removal spell. Scute Mob however, I can admit that it probably shouldn't be in the deck, but it was the first rare I ever pulled and is the reason I built this deck.

Greater Good does seem good with Vorel and I am definitely adding to the maybe board. With Primal Vigor, Prossh is a thing in my meta so that's a no go.

ah, interesting, I never considered Fertilid's potential as a political tool. I might have to give it another shot.

Another card I can recommend is Viral Drake, acting as an alternate win condition and as a mana sink. At the very least, it baits removal.

I forgot to mention Minamo, School at Water's Edge. I think it went up in price recently for some reason, but it's essentially an island that can untap Vorel, something my opponents occasionally overlook when declaring blocks.

I noticed previous comments discussing ways to draw, here's my experiences with that: Things I've tried but were never really satisfied with include Tezzeret's Gambit, Etched Oracle, Novijen Sages, Urban Evolution. I think Edric, Spymaster of Trest, Rhystic Study and Zameck Guildmage are staying in for the foreseeable future. Fathom Mage and Greater Good are god-tier. I'm currently trying out Sage of Fables and Treasure Cruise, with mixed results.

@Mandalorian, Helix Pinnacle isn't as great as it seems in Vorel decks. A few things stand in the way of it being a great win condition. For starters, it's an Enchantment, a card type which Vorel cannot interact with. Sure, there are cards like Liquidmetal coating and Gilder Bairn, but that's not especially reliable.

The real problem is that Helix Pinnacle has shroud, making it only affected by (pretty much) Doubling Season and proliferate effects. Obviously the mana cost can still be paid, but that's a lot of mana (best case scenario of like 45~50). If you're consistently getting such large amounts of mana, cards like Memnarch or Blue Sun's Zenith still both seem like better options, imo

True, its better when you run cards like Kruphix, God of Horizons to dump a bunch of mana into.

How do you find Hangarback Walker? I've been considering him for my own Vorel deck, but I'm not entirely convinced - it seems kind of expensive (cmc)? Hooded Hydra helps with tokens, for now.

Also, sorry if I already mentioned this (you cleared your comments lol), but Darksteel Reactor can be very potent. Not too expensive (cmc or money), hard to remove, and ends the game pretty quickly, especially if Vorel can get his hands on it. I'd recommend it over Eternity Vessel, which is a little more finichy, and doesn't necessarily do anything alone.

alecm I consider Hangarback Walker to be a sidegrade to Hooded Hydra. It has upsides with its tokens having flying and being tutorable with Fabricate, but as you said t is more expensive and it receives a disproportionate amount of hate from other players because of its appearance in standard (which might just be my playgroup but whatever), so unless you really need flyers in your deck, or want another Hooded Hydra in your deck, you can probably pass on it or at least wait until it rotates out of standard and its price drops.

With Darksteel Reactor, I took it out of the deck for the new kiora. Every time I would play Darksteel Reactor, I would either win or die in 2-3 turns, People stated attacking me straight out the gate solely because I was playing the card, while Eternity Vessel and Magistrate's Scepter are similar in the sense that the game is basically over unless someone has an answer, they don't have indestructible, making them easier to deal with. Darksteel Reactor is a lot more difficult to remove and in some color combinations, almost impossible to get rid of outside of Karn and Scour from Existence.

Not sure if anyone has suggested it before, but Sage of Hours runs a lot like the Magistrate's Scepter, and while you might not have a lot to target him for his Heroic ability, getting counters on him shouldn't be too difficult (graft, Spike Weaver, Biomancer, guildmage) and can even get his ability off the turn he comes out. A favorite of mine in any Simic counter deck is Clockspinning, which puts on loyalty counters, triggers Sage of Hours's heroic, Inexorable Tide multiple times, Managorger Hydra gets massive, has buyback, which is an extremely powerful mechanic in EDH, and is more than broken with Tamiyo's ult (like a lot of things).

Dunno how counter lite you meta is, but Fuel for the Cause is a great counterspell for Vorel. Also, if you're running into problems with someone else's indestructible, I tend to run Fade into Antiquity in my green decks and Reality Shift in all of my blue decks because it is freaking amazing (and because I absolutely hate seeing Purphoros, God of the Forge's face around our boards).

My original intention, was to build a deck like yours, have multiple ways to win the game with creatures and other effects. I thoroughly believe that I would have copied your deck card for card. +1 to you, good sir.

That being said, I ended up creating a Vorel's Super Fun Time Friends Galore. Check it out and tell me what you think.

For card draw, I found that Myojin of Seeing Winds can go crazy. By proliferating the divinity counter(s) you can keep it indestructible and draw alot of cards. It's expensive (7UUU), but with Everflowing Chalice out you could get there.

Also mana wise I've found that Gyre Sage and City of Shadows are great proliferate targets. City of Shadows can act as another Everflowing Chalice, you just have to sac a creature to it to get it going.

Another combo route can be Basalt Monolith, which gets infinite colourless mana with Rings of Brighthearth. Adding Voltaic Key then can get infinite activations of a Lux Cannon or Magistrate's Scepter.

are the Planeswalkers neccessary (other than Tamiyo, the Moon Sage )? I guess it's just badass having heaps of Planeswalkers on the board :P. You could add counter spells, the more the merrier :)

How does Illusionist's Bracers allow for infinite untaps with Kiora's Follower?

November 9, 2018 5:59 p.m.

EmEcks says... #16

MordMetal Every time the Kiora's Follower taps to activate it's ability, the ability triggers twice if the Illusionist's Bracers are equipped. So you untap the follower and another target. You can then tap the follower again, which triggers twice. Rinse, Repeat. Infinite Untaps.

DeinoStinkus I ran inexorable tide for a while in this deck but I ended up cutting it because I felt that its affect wasn't quite impactful enough for a five mana enchantment that required me to have a preexisting board state to actually do anything. In my experience it was a win more card that, while useful at times, was rather slow and I would personally prefer to have incremental build cards be at the lower end of my curve like Hardened Scales, Primal Empathy, and Evolution Sage
