Legacy Pox is why I run this deck when I am forced to play Modern.

Your three copies of Smallpox make me want more than 21 lands. 23 feels bare minimum to me. Raven's Crime would also benefit from the extra lands.

Splashing Red for Kolaghan's Command seems like a possible out against Chalice. It would start cluttering up your 3 slot.

I saw a list recently with the manabase of 9 Swamps, 4 Urborgs, 4 Tectonic Edge, 2 Ghost Quarter and 4 Mutavault. They were also running Smallpox and Warping Wail. I'm pretty sure that list was made to combat Modern Eldrazi. I think I would want a 3/3 split with those LD cards.

@ naynay666

I can see your point about running more lands, but when your highest CMC(main-board) is 3 losing a land here or there isn't that big of an issue especially because your opponent loses one as well. But after side, it is possible that you would want to run more, to accommodate the 4 CMC, so i am going to look into adjusting a little for this.

I like Kolaghan's Command for a normal 8Rack list but with this it doesn't feel really necessary.

Warping Wail , i wasn't even aware of this card existence, it seems like a pretty awesome addition to look into.

Kolaghan's Command is a useless card if you have no way to cast it. You should take it out of your sideboard.

@Tyrannosary

It isn't in the deck or the side, it was in the maybe board

Tyrannosary says... #6

Oh whoops I meant to say maybe board not sideboard.

Have you considered putting in Dakmor Salvage at all to make use of the lockdown combo with Raven's Crime?

I'm surprised nobody else mentioned it yet. I don't see why it wouldn't fit in here at all. Even as a two of in place of your two swamps and it gives you some swap fodder for your Inkmoth Nexus's too. Or you can keep them in and still have a potential discard engine for your Raven's Crime.

Food for thought.

This might be dumb (I don't play 8rack), but is there any consideration for splashing Green to play Glistener Elf, Abrupt Decay, Putrefax, Carrion Call, or something like that?

If you decide to move the Nexus to the main, you also get a few sick sideboard options like Golgari Charm (which happens to blow up Leyline, regen your infectors, or -1/-1 your opponent's field of tokens), Seal of Primordium, etc. Also, the plural of "nexus" is actually "nexus" -- whodathunk.

I think Infracktion would be a cooler name.

Plague Stinger and a Lashwrithe would win you far mor games than Phyrexian Vatmother

@TMBRLZ I do run a one of in my legacy Pox deck, i don't know why i didn't put it in here.

@TheAnnihilator That is an interesting idea, I don't know if it would work correctly or not, i would have to mess around to see, but it seems like it would make the transformation a bit too convoluted.

@APPLE01DOJ Plague Stinger and Lashwrithe may work pretty well, but i was going for simple card value with the transformation, while Plague Stinger does have evasion it is possible to give unblockable Phyrexian Vatmother. Plus with adding 2 different cards it seems once again to Muddle the Mixture(im not sorry for the pun) by taking the spot of some other essential cards.

Phyrexian Vatmother is too slow. Inkmoth Nexus is the best creature in the deck so why not add copies 5-8?

U only need Lashwrithe as a 1 of.

APPLE01DOJ you make a sound argument, ill look in to it

I run a personal Rack design, and the simple fact that you changed most of the decks mechanics by just using the sideboard is very interesting in my opinion (just by looking superficially at the deck). Well done with the concept.

Cheers! +1 because seeing different things is a rare occurrence nowadays.

This is really interesting. Do you think you could make a budget version?

August 24, 2016 7:58 p.m.

Titilanious says... #16

braderus9 thanks, Im glad you found it interesting! as for a budget version, I could try and think of something but it is pretty difficult because already operates on a thin line.

That being said i think it would be possible to add some replacements for cards like Liliana of the Veil and Ensnaring Bridge

August 29, 2016 9:37 a.m.

Dergam says... #17

Liliana of the Veil could be replaced by Necrogen Mists.

Ensnaring Bridge could be replaced by Meekstone.

@Dergam thanks man, those seem like good options.

braderus9 here are some budget replacements for some key cards.

Np.. I run with 2 Meekstones on my deck; of course it doesn't prevent the same things, but it's waaaay cheaper than Ensnaring Bridge and the cost is !!!!.

It's granted some wins :) You can wait your oponnent attack with a 3+/X creature, then on your turn you cast meekstone XD.

About Necrogen Mists, it's a perfect replacement.

January 23, 2017 6:01 a.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #21

Meekstone isn't modern legal.

If you want a legal Ensnaring Bridge replacement Norn's Annex or Ghostly Prison is the best modern can offer.

Titilanious says... #22

@APPLE01DOJ you are right, it says it is legal in modern on here, but that is wrong needs to be fixed i guess

Titilanious, I've been wanting to build a competitive modern build and feel like discard could be the way to go for me. I have a brew, Rat Heavy Discard. It's a pretty good deck in casual, but the more I try to make it competitive the less consistant it is. I realize I'm kind of forcing the rat theme. I plan on making a new rat deck for my casual ratty games, and just biting the bullet and making it an 8rack variant.

I need to pick up a bunch of the pieces, but won't be willing to shell out for Liliana of the Veil or Ensnaring Bridge. I also have the Mutavaults which would swap out for Swarmyard. I'd be willing to shell out for a better mana base too if needed. I see some of the budget options posted here, but I was wondering how crucial they are? Also, do you think keeping my deck black/red is a good idea? In particular I was thinking of running Lightning Bolt, Kolaghan's Command and Banefire. Maybe Death Cloud.

Sorry if this comes of as rambling. Thank you for your time.

The Mutavault & Urborg was something I didn't about. Will be fixing that in the 8-rack I run.
