EpicFreddi or goblins, death and taxes, and elves. You have no idea how badly I've wanted to splash black for Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, and Sphinx's Tutelage is like.. a mono blue ashiok except not really at all, but still ;_; Oh, and Abrupt Decay. Sigh... maybe one day

Speaking of decay and D&T.. wouldn't Sanctum Prelate an option? Place it on 2 with Top/Balance and they'll have a very hard time removing it.

EpicFreddi I've actually been testing it extensively lately! I'm such a huge fan of the card. It can help in so many bad matchups, it's unbelievable. After I test it more I'm going to write about it in the primer :)

One last thing. What's your opinion on moat?

EpicFreddi In the sideboard overview I go over all the random sb cards I've seen get notable play.

I am also a huge fan of Moat! If I owned one, I would play it. It's very good at completely halting a lot of decks. Your Vendilion Clique can attack through it, and it can't be Abrupt Decayed! The major down side is that other fliers can attack too, which can sometimes make it worthless vs decks like sneak and show especially. I got to play two of them recently at a battle of the stores event. I never got to use then vs eldrazi or anything, but it would have been amazing. The card is dumb and shouldn't exist how it does, it's a power house. But my pockets are too shallow for it.

Any thoughts on Summary Dismissal for uncounterable spells?

December 3, 2016 9:02 p.m.

Ashy says... #7

I actually don't hate that idea, lil_cheez. It would exile any spells I played under it though which sucks. But exiling abilities could be cool. But I feel like if I was going to play an exile spell, I'd play Mindbreak Trap for its ability to hit specific spells and be free vs storm.

The trap is actually a better card! I was with Dismissal fresh in my head because it's new.

lil_cheez Yeah it's pretty strong in the right meta! I might actually test it because last time I played at my locals there was 6 storm players, lol.

Once I finally build up to it, Miracles is definitely the legacy build I'd build into, awesome primer it helps a lot as an aspiring player +1

I'm really glad to hear that, Zaueski! I wrote all this in hopes that it helps the people who want to play it :D! Thank you.

I had to ask, is this deck really over $3000 LOL? But it is such an amazing control deck I must admit. Also, what is it like playing in legacy? I'm more of a modern/pauper player so I just was curious as to what it's like to play in a legacy tournament. Also, your deck gets my upvote, it's just such a well built deck.

Yeah the deck really is over $3,000. But to be fair a good bit of it is foil. The deck is my baby so I'm trying to foil it out completely. Thank you so much for the upvote :D! It is pretty enjoyable to play in legacy events actually. Most people in legacy are veterans so they truly grasp the rules and interactions most of the time. Which can be really frustrating at a local FNM type event. I've played this in a few larger tournaments, like the classic I got 10th at, and it's even more enjoyable at those type of events. Everyone's deck there seems to be so important to them and like a precious pet almost. But it was really fun. It's very challenging. You sit down knowing your opponent could kill you on turn one, or lock you out or anything, really. But it has such a great diversity that is such a blast and really deeply enjoyable. Legacy is my favorite format for sure, I just wish I got to play it more than once a week.

I'm going to be perfectly honest: I know nothing about playing miracles. from what i'm reading, it looks like you are having problems with some land based deck, so which I say Wasteland. I play belcher currently, and I think any free counterspell hurts a lot. try Disrupting Shoal.

January 22, 2017 9:11 p.m.

Ashy says... #15

Hey, Wurmlover, I appreciate the input. The thing about this deck is your lands are MUCH more important than your opponent's due to Sensei's Divining Top. You need to have as much mana as possible in order to spin whenever necessary. I talk about it a good bit in the primer :) Also, I play Force of Will for my free counterspell. It's a lot less restrictive than Disrupting Shoal. But thank you for the input regardless :D!

I very much wish I understood the game and had the experience a lot of Legacy players have, Im an okay player but I lack the experience to make amazing decks

Ashy says... #17

wyatt0781 well, all you can really do to get the experience is keep playing :D! Eventually you will have that experience! It takes a while, but it's so worth it! I also suggest playing vs people vastly better than you, and ask about their thoughts of your plays and such. And try to just do plays you normally wouldn't. Just to expand your perspective. Thanks for the upvote btw.

No problem:) and I usually do, I mean in my playgroup I usually got stomped by one of my friends whos pretty much a genius, well my Death and Taxes deck now stomps everyone else fairly easily, though it could use some improvements that I dont have money for, and in tournaments at my LGS I usually get stomped so I have to ask for advice

I feel like this primer could use an explanation of the rules of priority, as this ruling tends to be very important in certain matchups. For example, Death & Taxes with a Rishadan Port and Lands, again with a Rishadan Port. Otherwise, this is a great way to introduce players to a very cool deck.

Ashy says... #20

Oloro_Magic thank you, how do you mean exactly though? I've never really had priority be an issue in all of my years with the deck. Unless you're talking about spinning in response to Counterbalance's trigger? Which I talk about a lot I believe.

Like are you talking about an opponent using Rishadan Port to tap a land and you floating mana in response to spin or what?

April 2, 2017 9:31 p.m.

Oloro_Magic says... #21

Yes exactly. As a death and taxes player I would ask you at the beginning of the upkeep if you pass priority to me so that I can decide if I want to resolve Rishadan Port to prevent floating mana. If you pass priority before I activate the port then both priority steps pass and you have no opportunity to create floating as per competitive priority rules. I realize it's obscure but some newer players could get caught in this error when starting out, and accidently set themselves behind by passing priority. By the way, you explain Counterbalance better than anyone I have ever seen.

April 2, 2017 10:47 p.m.

Ashy says... #22

Oloro_Magic I'm still not entirely sure what you mean. If I understand this right, I think you're talking about trying to tap a land of mine during my upkeep, right? But then whatever you target with Rishadan Port I can just tap the land in response to the target xD? Am I missing something? Sorry.

April 3, 2017 2:51 p.m.

Oloro_Magic says... #23

Yeah your right. I try to tap your land during ur upkeep but in response you tap it for floating mana. However this is negated if at the beginning of your upkeep you passed priority. If you pass priority at the beginning of your upkeep and then I don't activate Rishadan Port after you do this you can't create a floating mana before your draw step. Additionally, if I were to activate Rishadan Port then you would have the opportunity to tap as an additional priority pass is created. Basically, this is one of those obscure interactions with the rules that can determine whether the miracles deck makes the most of its mana base.

April 3, 2017 3:03 p.m.

Ashy says... #24

Thank you for explaining that, Oloro_Magic. I appreciate it. Vs Rishadan Port I actually never spin during my upkeep, I want to reduce the chance of tying up mana. If my opponent didn't use port on my lands during my upkeep or at the end of turn, I always spin at the end of their turn. Or if they try to port me at my end step, I just float and spin in response :) Floating during upkeep vs port is usually a bad idea. I'll make sure to write about it in the primer if I decide to get that in depth in match strategies. Thank you very much!

Can't upvote this enough. I don't currently play Legacy, but if I did I know I'd play Miracles. Excellent primer, I love it!
