Maybeboard

Every victory is earned, and every loss deserved.

-faeries is a highly-interactive deck. This is the deck you want, if you like being rewarded for playing smart.

This variant is a highly skill-centered deck with a low margin for error. It’s highly adaptable and can switch between control and aggro very quickly.

  • Bitterblossom: bread and butter of the deck. Non-conventional uses include championing Scion of Oona with Mistbind Clique, then wipe the board with Damnation to populate 2/2 tokens again.
  • Spellstutter Sprite: we <3 this card. Firstly, we need to notice that it's a hard counter; so, playing defensively we want to use it after Remand and Mana Leak; on the contrary, playing aggro-style, we want to play it before. Notice, that Bitterblossom is also a Faerie, so you've got a hard 3-cmc counter on turn 3 for , which can free mana for Fatal Push or discard spells.
  • discard (Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek, Collective Brutality's Duress ability): in most cases in early game you want to Inquisite before expending multiple-usage CB or life-demanding TSz.
  • Vendilion Clique: this little cutie banishes the card to the library's bottom, which is good (as there are many mechanics to cast from graveyard, but much fewer tutoring). Can play this onto yourself to exchange useless card for draw; or you can just look at the opponent's hand, out of pure curiousity. Be curious.
  • Collective Brutality: great tool against many decks including Burn, combo decks.
  • powerups: Scion of Oona, Favorable Winds: try to bait a enchantment-hate spell before flashing Scion. Winds are at best situational pick in early game, but are extremely handy in late. Your tokens can go from 1/1 to 4/4 in 1 turn, which is unexpected, which is nice.

TL;DR: generally, turn 1 Thoughtseize + turn 2 Bitterblossom is a good way to go.

Basically, you stall the game until your opponent runs out of hand, and then let your Bitterblossom shine. Your detailed playstyle (desired balance of counters/removal, desired starting hand) will vary from oppponent to opponent due to interactive nature of the deck. As you need to play to your strengths to win, these are things this deck does best:

As a general advice for side boarding, always go for the question: “What can I cut from my main deck?” first rather than “What cards can I bring in?”. This applies to any matchup.

Make sure you have enough beautiful 1/1 tokens!

I own the deck in it's current configuration.
