Inalla and the Wizards of Control

Commander / EDH* UBR (Grixis)

Sideboard

This deck is meant to be played as a semi-casual multiplayer deck. The main win conditions are the combos, but there is no rush to get to those combos. I am a control player at heart, and this deck is the most viable control strategy I could brew in a multiplayer casual setting.
You might like this deck if you like infinite combos, but aren't looking to race to a combo. Also, this deck might appeal to you if you like countering your opponents spells and having an answer to any threat on a stack. Or you might like this deck if you think wizards are just a cool archetype and you want to generate a ton of value off of Inalla, Archmage Ritualist's Eminence ability.
Quick note, all of these combos only work because Inalla, Archmage Ritualist is in the command zone.

  • Arcanis the Omnipotent: This card is cool, but ultimately it didn't do enough for the mana investment.
  • Puppeteer Clique: I would rather have my own creatures than my opponents'. And if I do want my opponents' creatures, there are better ways in this deck to take them.
  • Docent of Perfection  : He is not a wizard and I am not casting enough spells to justify this. May reconsider later if I see other cards underperforming.
  • Panharmonicon: This just feels like a waste of four mana since we essentially have this effect with Inalla, Archmage Ritualist in the command zone.
  • Kindred Discovery: This card will need to be removed before we try and combo off. Otherwise, we will just lose. I suppose this just makes our Laboratory Maniac more viable, but that will mean we will need to keep up an additional three mana to combo off.
  • Deadeye Navigator: This card can have some serious interactions with ETB effects in this deck, but at 6 mana and not doing anything until have 2 additional mana can be rough. At the end of the day, the fact he isn't a wizard and doesn't receive the same benefits wizards do in the deck, along with being too mana intensive, he got cut.
I am keeping a sideboard to easily remove the combo from this deck if I am sitting at a table where combo is frowned upon.

Here is the sideboard plan:
- Ashnod's Altar
- Phyrexian Altar
- Ghostly Flicker
- Wanderwine Prophets
+ Cryptic Gateway
+ Door of Destinies
+ Sundial of the Infinite
+ Vanquisher's Banner
  • Sigil Tracer: Everytime I have played this I run into these 2 scenarios: Either I have enough wizards and not enough mana, or I have enough mana and not enough wizards...
  • Vendilion Clique: One of my favorite cards in Modern. Not sure if this is good enough in Commander or not.
  • Riptide Director: When I use its effect, it is so good. But is the activation cost too high to warrant the spot?
