I am a large fan of the infect mechanic. It's what brought me back into magic. I've been playing since 2002, I thought I finally retired from this game. During the Saviors of Kamigawa set. It was simply because the only local gaming store in my community died. And I didn't feel like keeping up to date on cards, without any local gaming store around. A new one did pop up, but I wasn't re-interested in magic yet.
Then late 2010 in midst of the Scars of Mirrordin block. I end up visiting a friend from out of town. His roommates played magic, and asked me to tag along as they attend a friday night magic session. "Sure" I say, "Can I build a deck from the cards you don't use?"
From there I stumble upon the new mechanic "Infect". A match made in heaven between the wither and poison counter mechanics I heard about before replaying. It can be speedy, and lethal if done right. My spark for wanting to play was brightly rekindled.
I started up a 3 color infect deck from there. As I returned to my local gaming store. I became the token infect player, always devising new decks and strategies, bearing the infect flag with pride.
With October looming in the distance, and no more infect cards being printed since New Phyrexia. It leaves a challenge to build new decks, with what the new crops of cards offer.
These last few months will be the death rattle and last stand for infect in standard. It will spread and infest til the end. Defiantly!
