Do you play on cockatrice? Cause I think I have played against this exact deck there...

I do a little bit, but I haven't loaded this deck on there.

Go for 3 card:Devil's Play, because its straight up removal.

November 11, 2012 2:31 p.m.

Elder of Laurels is hilarious in a deck like this, he can pump up all your creatures to infinite/infinite if you have infinite mana. I love decks like this, good luck! +1

Elder of Laurels would be great, love that guy even w/o infinite mana - thanks!

(Also, as a side note, gruvyslushytruk if you click the "+1 Upvote" it'll give me the +1 =] )

Not sure how you meant it in your description as far as the Gilded Lotus and Zealous Conscripts, but if you are in control of the Gilded Lotus, you can't bring in Zealous Conscripts to untap it and use it again, you are already in control of it.

Ya you can. It's like using Tamiyo, the Moon Sage to tap and already tapped permanent. It doesn't care that that it's already tapped or that it's already under your control.

November 17, 2012 2:10 p.m.

Yeah being a permanent makes it a valid target, it doesn't specify that an opponent control it like JasonMB said. Great deck! I hope to make something with all of this defender infinite mana goodness, and I love Deadeye Navigator any deck that has it within gets a +1 in my book!

jesus this deck massively needs a set of Arbor Elf . im constantly getting early mana screwed and you always need to wait for turn 3 to drop Axebane Guardian

November 18, 2012 6:29 p.m.

JasonMB says... #10

Hmm...maybe, the Vines should help keep consistent and the Guardians too - I don't think I can add 4 Arbor Elves though....maybe 2, but that wouldn't be helpful.

Syncopate , or two? Guaranteed counter if they try to stop your combo.

Have you played in an FNM with this deck? I would love to hear how it fares against some of the other metagame decks out there currently!

I've been running my other deck Human Control - JB the last 3 weeks and placing tops with it, but I was actually just thinking of running this deck this week as it has a lot of popularity and it'll be a nice change of pace.

I'll certainly update on here with how it does.

JasonMB says... #14

You are very correct. I ran this last night at FNM. I'll do a full rundown on how it went, but you hit it right on the head when you said "Axebane Guardian, Fog Bank, Gatecreeper Vine, and sometimes Tree of Redemption until turn 5 or later doesn't seem viable."

I'll provide full feedback and reflections in a couple hours.

I really like your deck. It works for me, and I've also been trying to build something like it for a while. I agree with RedZebraTape, there are a lots of CMC 5+ spells for one of the combos.

Was wondering of you ever considered putting in Doorkeeper over the Mindshrieker because they are another defender for the combo and heck you might get more milling done with them. The Doorkeeper also is a perfect target for a Galvanic Alchemist .

Izzet Charm or Elvish Visionary might be helpful in the deck too, if only as a draw mechanics. When I play tested your deck I would constantly need some different card and not have a way to card draw.

I can vouch for this deck being pretty decent. JasonMB and I play FNM together and if you don't gain the advantage early and he gets a chance to setup the combo it is pretty hard to deal with it. Wrathing the board is about the only way.

I was playing Junk Rites/tokens and was able to beat the deck but mostly because I sided in Liliana of the Veil and made him discard his hand. Otherwise the Zealous Conscripts would have kept taking all my stuff.

It does need some minor tweaks, but over all it seems like a fun deck. Maybe when Gatecrash comes out there will be some fun U/G cards to add to it.

JasonMB says... #18

Ya, some U/G or R/G cards could boost this deck. I don't really like the lack of control, but once I get a Deadeye Navigator out with a Conscript or Slime or anything really, makes me feel better. I sided Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius (never got him out), but he might be a good mainboard if I have a good mana pool to pump through him.

Gonna brainstorm ideas in this space. Since the deck works great once I get to turn 6 or 7, I really need stuff in the 1-3 range (mainly 1 drop range) to help speed the deck up or add some sustainability.

Abundant Growth - help mana fix and add a card draw, but doesn't really ramp my mana or keep me alive.

Arbor Elf - Good mana ramp and a 1/1 creature. It can die easy though.

Faithless Looting - not sure if I wanna be tossing cards in my graveyard though.

Fog - I really think I might use Fogs.

Kraken Hatchling - if only it had defender..........

Nephalia Smuggler - ability could be another blink later if need be.

Slumbering Dragon - A good early creature to maybe deter some attacks especially if I just have defenders out to block.

Unsummon - good to get rid of that pumped up creature or maybe to cause a rancor to fizzle

Wingcrafter - could bind with a defender later (like a tree of redemption or test subject)

Wolfbitten Captive  Flip - decent threat if keep mana in reserve

Young Wolf - double chump block

As far as usefulness in opening hand, I like the Fog, Slumbering Dragon, Unsummon, Young Wolf, , Arbor Elf and Wolfbitten Captain best. As far if I draw it later, I like Fog, Unsummon, Faithless Looting, Smuggler.

I think the dragon is the best to get in opening hand, but that would mean I'd have to have a red in opening hand too...and I barely have any red, so would have to redo land ratio too. Fog and Unsummon seem to best well rounded 1 drops for me. Arbor Elf is solid choice.

As far as what I think I can take out:

-1 card:Ludevic's Test Subject

-2 Mindshrieker

-1 Zealous Conscripts

-1 Gilded Lotus

and then maybe do

+3 Slumbering Dragon

+2 Fog

And then rework mana. Or maybe

+4 Slumbering Dragon

+1 Jace, Architect of Thought

Comments?

Then again, I've had decent luck with 4 Fog and then my mana wouldn't be messed up later. Maybe 4 fogs and leave in a Conscript.

What about Cackling Counterpart ? Possible end of turn Dupe a Gatecreeper Vine or Axebane Guardian ? It could excel your mana or you can save them to make an end of turn Zealous Conscripts

November 25, 2012 3:32 p.m.

JasonMB says... #23

Ok, I added a Cackling Counterpart , 4 Farseek s, 3 Izzet Charm s, 2 Elvish Visionary s, mainboarded Garruk Relentless  Flip and I took out the Fogs and Unsummons I was contemplating. Also took out the Acidic Slime s and sided them. Since I really needed this deck to be quicker in the first 3 turns, this should help a lot.

Thank you! I had help some good advice - both on here and in person. I'm just bummed I have to miss the next FNM, so it'll be a bit til I can really test it out.

Also...I really need G/U or R/G shocks once the next set is out.
