Infinite Damage Combo (Devoted Druid/ Quillspike

Modern* BG (Golgari) Combo Infinite Combo

Arkavia

What better way to show that your deck is vastly superior to your opponent's than dealing them an infinite amount of damage?

This deck uses a 2 card combo with Devoted Druid and Quillspike. This is how it works:

Devoted Druid can tap to produce , and you can put a -1/-1 counter on it to untap it. With Quillspike you can pay to remove a -1/-1 counter from a creature you control, and give Quillspike +3/+3 until end of turn.

To set of the combo, tap Devoted Druid for , then untap it and put a -1/-1 counter on it. With Quillspike, you then use the green mana from Devoted Druid to remove the -1/-1 counter from Devoted Druid, and give Quillspike +3/+3. You can keep doing this over and over until Quillspike is as big as you want. You can then swing for game, or ignore blockers by using Rite of Consumption to deal damage equal to Quillspike's power directly to your opponent.

Still with me? Here's the basic deck strategy:

Early Game:

You have a couple of options for turn 1, so it will have to come down to what you draw. Bird Of Paradise and Llanowar Elves are great plays on turn 1, since they speed up you mana, and thus reduce turns until you can play your combo. Spoils of the Vault is also a great draw because it allows you to tutor one of your combo cards.

Mid Game:

Fend off as much as you can of what your opponent can throw at you. Use your kill spells (Doom Blade and Go for the Throat) to kill any creatures they play, and use your counter spells (Negate and Spell Pierce) to counter any other spells that might threaten you. Pretty straight forward stuff. All the while, try to get your combo cards on the battlefield. Tutor for them if necessary. Remember that if Summoner's Pact can help you get your 2nd combo card and you can use it to win that turn, you don't need to have enough lands to pay the cost next turn.

Late Game:

Wins with this deck are made early on, so late game for this deck is turn 4-5. By then, you are almost guarantied to have your two combo cards in hand or on the battlefield. From there, just do the combo. Easy as that. You'll have an infinitely big creature to attack with, and you can use Rite of Consumption or Distortion Strike to get past their creatures. GG!
