This is great! It's amazing on two counts:
1) Gameplay looks good fun as well as being competitive
2) It uses Kazandu Tuskcaller
What more does a deck need!? +1

@ Ballzanya That's a decent idea. I'd use it more as a finisher than anything, but that's what the Craterhoof Behemoth does for me. I'd run it, but this deck relies far too much on the combos to consider a back-up beat down strategy. It can run beatdown if it has the right cards, but it's not very likely to happen at all. Know what I mean? :)

That's what I was thinking too, Curd. I've run a few unique builds but never anything that I was super proud of like what I've been coming up with lately - it was just kind of generic.

Playing something unique is awesome. I love it when my opponent busts out a Thoughtseize and they have no idea what to target. Those moments are pretty much waht makes the game for me. That, and getting off an infinite combo. I'd say I'm a Johnny/Spike hybrid, haha. I can TOTALLY see you running Pod. It fits your playstyle to a T, kind of like how Splinter Twin would be my meta deck if I were stuck with one.

@ KrosanTusker, ELEPHANTS! FUCKING ELEPHANTS! -- I love how cheap this deck is too. Tuskcaller is probably the best level-up card ever made haha.

Heritage Druid is good for any elf deck, but If you're on the Intruder Alarm plan, than it's even more valuable. I think you can replace your Karametra's Acolyte with them.

Secondly, you might want to spring for some Chord of Calling or Summoner's Pact so that you can run your key combo creatures as 1-ofs, and also make room for more of your baseline creatures

Heritage Druid wouldn't have the combo potential that Karametra does. This is a combo deck. If it doesnt go infinite, it doesn't do much. I can't take out pieces without substituting them.

I tried Chord and found it too slow. I fear the same about Summoner's Pact as well. I might give it a go in another deck, but it doesn't fit how this one plays imo.

@v4v3 maybe I'm missing something about "combo potential." What role does Karametra's Acolyte play that Heritage Druid can't?

I see it now, it combos with staff

but still, Heritage Druid often leaves you with turn 2 board with 3 1-drop elves and an Elvish Archdruid , and if you're trying to combo with Intruder Alarm It just gets there way before any of your other cards do.

I do see your point. In a regular elf deck it would be a great pick with Intruder Alarm. This isn't a normal Elf deck, though.

I'm actually in between both of you Sam_I_am and v4v3.

I too was less-than-impressed with Heritage Druid on paper (obviously it's power in legacy elves and Modern Elves with Beck is a complete necessity that goes without saying). Being the way I am though; I gave it a try in my Elf Devotion Deck. While I only ended up running two; they are spectacular in the deck. I would have never known without Sam_I_am suggesting it and testing it blindly.

Having said that, the Karametra's Acolyte + Staff of Domination combo is a must; and there's not much of anything that can count of the deck...it's hard when there are so many good synergistic creatures that you can't fit them all in one deck! You basically just have to test until you hit the perfect balance; and then build another deck using the others :)

I do like the idea of one Summoner's Pact . There are games that Summoner's Pact may sit in you hand while you prepare for a combo; but there's also nothing worse than needing that one piece and having the mana to play it! As a one -of it would most likely be far more useful than it would be "dead" in most games. I do, however, understand the wish for "streamlining" as well. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in (as little as they help :) because Sam_I_am's suggestions have been strong for me in the past. Having said this, we are running two very different decks.

The one-of Summoner's Pact is actually a decent idea. Truth be told, though, I find I have more problems pulling the Alarm/Staff for the combo. There's lots of creatures/other things that proc the combos, just not a lot of combo-cards itself. I can use Karametra, Archdruid, or Voyaging Satyr for my Staff combo and Presence of Gond and Kazandu for the Alarm. That's 3:1 pieces for the staff, and 2:1 for the alarm (I hope I phrased this in an understandable way lol) - In the end, I don't usually need to search for my creatures.

Heritag Druid could help make my Elvish Visionarys/Coiling Oracles useful, so it's worth some consideration. I may even take out a Llanowar or two for it depending on how it holds in playtests.

I kinda want to make a BUG deck with those cards - I feel like the added control could make up for the reduced speed in the deck.

February 18, 2014 2:36 p.m.

Ha! There's just too many great elves! It's a curse and a blessing :) I like the BUG idea too.

Heritage Druid turns all your elves into Llanowar Elves with haste

Dave says... #13

Yeah, exactly Sam_I_am - that's what I was getting at in my previous comment. I think it could be a good one-of judging from the goldfishing I'm doing with it.

And Curd, I'm not too sure how I'd go about that one. If I do the summoner's pact thing I could even have room for some beatdown too. Dirty ol' Primalcrux and some other devotion mechanics could work in it. Got any ideas? It'd be a bit out of my element.

Oh man, I just realized that I need Intruder Alarm for my Welcome to card drawing Town deck.

I know it's off colour, but Intruder Alarm + Krenko, Mob Boss

Dave says... #17

Not a bad idea, Dodge. I might use that in a Splinter Twin deck with intruder alarm. No red can fit in this one, though.

Very nice +1 from me. Im curious about how many turns you can usually put this together by?

February 25, 2014 8:18 p.m.

Dave says... #23

Playtest it and see if you want. ;) It really depends what it's up against. Turn 3 infinite creatures happens quite frequently (if you look at the description it doesn't require too many pieces to it) - the Staff combos are a bit slower, but they're better geared towards burn/control. They also end the game the turn they go off, whereas the Intruder Alarm combos can't unless there's a Craterhoof Behemoth .

It's really hard to say. If you're goldfishing it, it should have something by turn 4 every time - lethal damage with pumped elves or a combo. You just gotta know how to mulligan it.
