Mk. 3.8 —Feb. 24, 2017

New: Spike Weaver; Arcane Denial; Ephara, God of the Polis

Cut: Lavinia of the Tenth, Nim Deathmantle, Fatestitcher

Spike Weaver is returning to replace Lavinia as my anti-aggro tool of choice, mainly because despite needing additional mana to use, he stops everything without support, whereas Lavinia only hits up to 4-drops and needs a blink engine to reuse. I'm also not a huge fan of prison cards in general; Lavinia's ETB trigger isn't a horribly powerful prison effect, but it's another reason for me to go back to the Fog Machine, who only blanks combat damage and doesn't turn off mana rocks and stuff that people might need to play the game.

Nim Deathmantle and Fatestitcher are both solid cards, but I needed space and they felt like the two least necessary cards in the deck. I might put Fatestitcher back in over Kiora's Follower, but I don't think I need both. I'm bringing Ephara back because the deck desperately needs ways to draw more cards; having all the mana in the world but nothing to do with it is a situation I find myself in more often than I would like. I'm also adding a third counterspell, both as interaction and as combo protection, and as a 2-mana hard counter that cantrips, Arcane Denial is up there with the best of them.
