The B/U/G deck has improved greatly! I went 3-1 last night, and many people were highly intrigued by the matches I was playing. I literally played the greatest round of Magic in my LIFE last night, and it was fantastic! I made five card changes in the main deck and a few in the sideboard, and I feel like they are all worthwhile. We'll talk about that later.
Round 1: B/G Sewer Deck (Win) - My buddy David and I played for a THIRD straight week in a row. He brought his same B/G deck back (after I also gave him some Gutter Skulks for it), and I've now dubbed it the "Sewer Aggro" deck. Unfortunately, the two matches did not go well for him. Afterwards, I asked him a few questions about it, and I found out he was only running 20 lands. That problem has been alleviated, and it is running much smoother.
Round 2: Naya Aggro (Win) - My good friend Robin and I had some intense matches. All three of these matches were literally THE GREATEST rounds of Magic I've ever played. Both of us were at the top of our game, and that was some high-end competition level play. We went to 3, and I won solely because my Ashiok had nabbed a Purphoros from him, and with her at 9 loyalty and Robin at 1 life, it was a -4 on Ashiok followed by a Caryatid for the win. Goddamn, my heart was racing. They were fantastic rounds. I'm going to be thinking about that for a while.
Round 3: G/R Aggro (Loss) - This was not your conventional G/R deck, as it was focused around a very fast and quick kill. Basic mana ramp with Mystic and Caryatid, followed by the turn 3 Xenagod, turn 4 Stormbreath, then Blood for the win. It just outpaced anything I could do. He was running 4 of on everything in the deck, and it played well for him. Can't complain.
Round 4: Patriot Control (Draw/Win) - My buddy Colton brought his Patriot Control deck. The red splash was essentially to fit in Warleader's Helix and Keranos, God of Storms. Unfortunately, after I sided in against him, my control was stronger than his. Ashiok was a CHAMPION in this matchup, as I pulled his Supreme Verdict, Sphinx's Revelation and Elspeth, Sun's Champion.
Overall, the rounds were good. Before I played, I worked out a little more tempo into my deck, and the level of control I had in any given match was pretty amazing. Granted, I still plan on keeping a bit more towards the aggro side.
I had already pulled 1x Polukranos, World Eater in place of 1x Prognostic Sphinx. I've loved that card ever since I saw it, and as anyone who has looked at my blue splashes before, they know I've been trying to get it into a deck for a while. It playtested rather well before further rearranging.
I pulled 3x Scavenging Ooze, 1x Polukranos, World Eater and 1x Bow of Nylea and replaced them with:
1x Bile Blight
1x Hero's Downfall
1x Dissolve
1x Prognostic Sphinx
1x Golgari Charm
Thanks to this additional removal package as well as the extra flying creature of awesomeness, the deck runs far smoother with way more open options. The sideboard has been fixed up in order to offer extra synergy with additional cards of these types and more open options for all matchup possibilities.
I just have to work on the fast-aggro matchup now.
