vampiric fury, deviant glee, gruesome deformity, rakish heir and vampire interloper all suck. you want 4 nocturnus. period. if you don't care about keeping it standard, you'll want Terminate , Lightning Bolt , Pulse Tracker , Vampire Lacerator , Kalastria Highborn , Viscera Seer , Bloodghast , either Marsh Flats or Verdant Catacombs , and most of all 4x Gatekeeper of Malakir . also blade of the bloodchief and dreadbore are both meh. you need 4 blood crypt and 4 Blackcleave Cliffs . fetch lands grab the crypts so you really don't need mountains. i'm still unconvinced curse of stalked prey is playable outside of standard for this kind of deck. for the record, vampires aren't good in standard. they're powerful in modern if used right. and olivia voldaren is a god.

drop Blade of the Bloodchief and make this standard

January 12, 2013 2:55 a.m.

why though? vampires aren't good in standard. at all. this was obviously modeled after standard builds, but he's still new at this game, and eternal formats are better for easing new players into magic while learning the ropes. standard is for super competitive players with money to burn.

i just told him to make it standard because he would only need to take out one set of cards...idc what style he wants to play it just seems dumb to have one card stopping you from having a standard deck...and eternal is gay

sorry two cards also remove Urge to Feed if you want...

eternal formats are for people who don't want to build a new deck every few months. they're more stable, so to speak, and you don't have to worry about cards rotating out. modern is gaining popularity lately. if you're going to insult an entire format and its players, at least provide a reason, instead of using gay as an insult like a second grader. i know from experience, standard is a terrible, terrible idea for newcomers. casual legacy with friends is a better way to learn the basics as you grow to understand the game.

yeah i guess some people are slow learners....if youre half retarded by all means go with eternal. if youre playing with friends id just go with whatever they are doing b/c you dont wanna be the guy playing eternal in a standard group. and dont get butt hurt like that guy standard makes it a level playing field for all people good or bad

January 12, 2013 4:19 a.m.

no need to get vulgar over a card game. look, he says in the description he doesn't care about formats. stop flaming a large portion of this game's player base and say something constructive. otherwise, leave the guy alone, all he asked for was advice on improving his build.

i believe ive given constructive advice, youre the one that commented on my advice in the first place

January 12, 2013 4:46 a.m.

your idea of constructive is "play a different format". uh-huh.

if you havent noticed so is yours...i was just telling him if he dropped a couple cards he could make it standard...which is easier for new people in my opinion and it can be casul play if youre just playing with friends (i also know from experience) i recommended two small changes while you recommended an entire new deck...

January 12, 2013 12:08 p.m.

no, i didn't. i recommended cards commonly used in vampires outside of standard that he likely was unaware of, since he stated in the description he doesn't care about the format.

xPaDaWaNx says... #13

he said he didnt bother paying attention to the format...so i simply stated a format in which he might want to run with his current deck concept...you gave him a copy of your deck that youve been shuffling through tappedout for 11months

January 12, 2013 12:31 p.m.

no? i don't run the highborn engine. please point out to me where i posted a decklist here and not just a list of suggested cards.

speaking of card suggestions, if you also don't care about modern vs. legacy, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth makes an impressive combo piece with Lake of the Dead and Cabal Coffers . Dark Ritual , card:Sensei's Divining Top, and Phyrexian Arena are all cards i remember using in my early work with a fair degree of success while playing with my friends. the top is banned in modern but it's perfectly fine in legacy. and it helps nocturnus to stay active.

Um drop the Rakish Heir s and Vampire Nocturnus for 4xFalkenrath Aristocrat s. The reason why nocturnus is only half good in your deck is because you have red cards(also swamps dont count for black cards). Get another Blood Crypt and throw in 2 Rakdos Guildgate . Bloodthrone Vampire is awesome for its sacrifice mechanic as well as the aristocrat. Paired with blood artist they have synergy. Take out the Vampiric Fury because with the stromkirk captain you get the constant effect trust me you wont miss that card. Olivia Voldaren is awesome. I know it sounds like im trying to make your deck like mine but im not. Ive used the innistrad vampires and found that these ones work the best plus their is tons of room left for personalization. Also killer combo right here Thatcher Revolt with Falkenrath Aristocrat and Blood Artist out. After the thatchers attack and it goess through sac them into the aristocrat blood artist triggers and the aristocrat gets 3 +1/+1 counters. Hope this helps 1+ to your deck

January 12, 2013 11:36 p.m.

i think 4 nocturnus is more or less needed in vampires. it just needs to be geared to use him. if he wants to go standard, yeah, the aristocrats work. outside of standard, bloodghasts are better. and yes, olivia is very much awesome.

Alright, I've read all the comments. I had been going back and forth on whether or not I wanted to have Rakish Heir , Curse of Stalked Prey , and Vampiric Fury in the deck, but I decided to keep them in because I didn't know what I would substitute them for. I like the idea of both Falkenrath Aristocrat and Olivia Voldaren plus Bloodthrone Vampire but what would I sac for Aristocrat and Bloodthrone? Tokens? Stromkirk Noble s? If i had control of other creatures I could sac them but to me it seems like Olivia Voldaren s power would slow me down. I was also looking at Gatekeeper of Malakir , Vampire Lacerator , and Kalastria Highborn which are all really good 1-2 drops but to me, without some kind of boost to their power/toughness, they don't seem like enough. I assume I'm just missing something about how they can work together. Terminate and Lightning Bolt will probably end up going in and replacing maybe Dreadbore and Blade of the Bloodchief or something.

Also, what are the benefits of the lands you guys suggested as opposed to the lands I had included? And would it just be in my best interest to make this a mono-black with it's focus on Vampire Nocturnus ? Thanks for all these suggestions.

nocturnus actually works great as long as at least 30/60 cards are black (including multicolor). you want a low mana curve. being able to swarm with 1-2 mana creatures (viscera seer, pulse tracker, vampire lacerator, stromkirk noble) and then being able to buff the field with nocturnus while bypassing their monsters is what makes them good. verdant catacombs and marsh flats let you search either swamps or blood crypts, revive bloodghasts and force a shuffle for nocturnus if you topdeck non-black. speaking of nocturnus, yeah, he's what makes these small creatures dangerous with +2/+1 flying. also, gatekeeper of malakir is the best vampire in the game. period. he's a vintage staple for Sorin's sake. the only one who comes close is Olivia. Blackcleave Cliffs , Blood Crypt , Sulfurous Springs and Graven Cairns all work here just by being dual lands.

Oh also, I forgot to ask....why would Deviant Glee and Gruesome Deformity be bad to include? If I get rid of Rakish Heir (which I'll probably be doing at this point) I see how Gruesome Deformity has no significant purpose, but Deviant Glee is a one mana +2/+1 buff. I don't see how that could be a bad thing

January 13, 2013 6:29 p.m.

deviant glee is just not as good as having another creature or another removal. it pretty much doesn't do anything but boost stats, which your lords do anyway. and nocturnus grants evasion regardless, so intimidate from gruesome deformity is redundant here.

(I play mostly casual too) Blood Seeker , Quag Vampires , Pulse Tracker are good low cost vampires to keep you moving fast. Feast of Blood is a great card that I run 4 of in my casual vampire deck. You could consider Dark Ritual too. It will get you Turn 1 Vampire Nighthawk and Turn 2 Vampire Nocturnus pretty often. You could use Blackcleave Cliffs to fix your mana too. Blightning would be pretty funny. Your going to want more creature destruction. Diabolic Edict maybe or perhaps Go for the Throat or Doom Blade . Keep the red cards low so Nocturnus can swing more often for big.

January 13, 2013 7:29 p.m.

not a fan of blood seeker or quag vamps. they arenm't terrible but there are much better options. and quag vampires will make you realize, you can't afford to waste mana here.
