I'm having some trouble actually narrowing down what I'm going to replace and with what. I edited the deck a little bit, but I would like to have Falkenrath Aristocrat , Bloodghast , and Kalastria Highborn in there somehow, but I don't know what else to change to fit them in. And the lands seem to be alright, but probably could use some touching up to. Any more suggestions here?

you actually could drop the urge to feeds. removal is good, but 4x lightning bolt, terminate, and gatekeeper should be fine. also another reason i said -2 bloodline keeper +2 nocturnus is that lord of lineage is a target for Smother , Ratchet Bomb and Abrupt Decay .

Okay, how's it look now?

The best way to know realistically would be to actually play with it, but I don't have the money right now. I'd really like to test it for real.

things like stromkirk noble, lacerator, bloodghast, etc. are cards better run in playsets (4). and seeing as you're not running viscera seer or kalastria highborn you might not need the blood artists or falkenrath aristocrats. again, the benefit of playing non-standard vamps is you have much broader access to 1 mana vampires. also, Pulse Tracker ? i love those annoying little guys. as for lands, i would say 4 Blackcleave Cliffs instead of 3 mountains and a swamp would go a long way to help you mana fix. and a set of either Marsh Flats or Verdant Catacombs is probably a good idea.

Sweet, thanks a lot man, you've been a big help. I'll keep playing around with ideas and actually construct the deck eventually. Hopefully it'll end up alright.

you know, my only deck right now is r/b vampires built for competitive play in modern, where vamps are tier 2. if you'd like, take a look at my deck, since i really got into not only building it, but exploring the darker sides of the multiverse since joining in 2010. it might give you some ideas, though most of this i've conveyed here. what the other guy said about me basing my advice on my own deck wasn't entirely wrong, but that's because my deck works, and i've put a lot of time and effort into mastering vampires.

January 18, 2013 2:27 a.m.

oh and one more thing: i don't use this anymore since not many competitive modern decks use counterspells, but from a casual standpoint, you might want to look into Cavern of Souls . if you don't like the idea of $100 for a set though, i'd say skip it.

Lol, just saw some comments by xPaDaWaNx and I thought to myself, what an uneducated, unintelligent person. Modern and Eternal formats leave soo much more room for creativity if played at a semi-competitive or casual level. That's kind of the appeal of the whole thing, dontcha think bud? And as a matter of cost, if I recall most standard decks have very expensive cards just to stay competitive.. sure there are some exceptions to this rule, but overall it seems like Standard is just a gimmicky Format and a money pit due to the constant rotation and keeping up with the Jones's that it takes to make a half decent Standard deck. Also it seems like if one or two types of competitive Standard decks are made everyone and their brother rushes to copy it.. seems like a waste of time in my opinion, but, to each their own I suppose.Anyways, I like the thought of a newbie to Magic jumping right into a Vampire deck, reminds me of myself. +1! And don't hesitate to check out my deck if you need some Vampire ideas! Vampiric Rapehouse

standard is by far the most competitive format, which i guess is the appeal of playing standard all the time for some people. myself, i prefer the creative freedom and lack of restraint that legacy and modern offer while still having a competitive aspect to them.

i havent read all the comments thoroughly, but unless someone else mentioned it, instead of 2 pulse trackers i would have 4. just some early game "poking" at them regardless if they block or not.

January 24, 2013 10:54 a.m.

pulse trackers are awesome, i love those annoying little bastards.

Yea after playtesting a lot, I feel like I want to add 2 pulse trackers and drop Olivia Voldaren and a Land but I'm not sure

January 24, 2013 2:41 p.m.

you could drop your land count to 22. olivia isn't really an aggro creature, but she's still amazing. olivia is more if you want the ability to shift into a semi-defensive style in the event that the game enters a late game phase. using the full sets of nocturnus, tracker, lacerater, bloodghast, noble and captain is more the way to go if you just wanna go balls out aggro and throw caution to the wind. oh, i should also mention Vampire Hexmage if no one has yet. dropping nighthawk to 3 is also an option.

January 24, 2013 4:46 p.m.

oh, i didn't notice you were already at 22 lands. 22 is usually consistent in my experience. also, Viscera Seer maybe?

I took Voldaren out for now just to see how it'll play. It might be a little faster.

Anybody have any tips for a sideboard maybe?

I would take out those 4 Verdant Catacombs , at 25$ each i'm sure you can find something with a much bigger impact on your deck . Simply put 3 Rakdos Guildgate and add Hall of the Bandit Lord to make your bigger vampires more fearfull with haste

I don't want to have tapped lands though to slow it down and the Catacombs adds a deck shuffle to give Vampire Nocturnus another chance for black if it needs it. The cost is definitely an issue though, I haven't actually gotten the Catacombs lol

February 4, 2013 2:06 p.m.

he's running bloodghasts and blood crypts. he'd be insane not to use fetch lands.

February 4, 2013 7:14 p.m.

as for the main, i'd say -2 nighthawk +2 pulse tracker. also, -4 captivating, +4 stromkirk noble. you have captains. captivating is redundant here and is another 3 mana card. noble isn't black, but he's a great 1-drop.

good sideboard cards:

Rakdos Charm

Surgical Extraction

Vampire Hexmage

Phyrexian Metamorph

Darkblast

Deathrite Shaman

Smother

Torpor Orb

Ratchet Bomb

Pithing Needle

card:Grafdigger's Cage

Spellskite

Leyline of the Void

card:Tormod's Crypt

Pyroclasm

Shatterstorm

Sever the Bloodline

Mirri the Cursed is a fun vampire

I was looking at that early on, but I'm not sure I would want to swap it in with anything or with what. Good card though.

March 20, 2013 4:15 p.m.

this is now almost a carbon copy of my deck, only with bloodghasts and lacking Olivia.
