white, lacerator is better due to being 1 mana.

but with 2 how often with thy see it? by the point thou does, 4 CMC should be no problem
March 20, 2013 7 p.m.
It doesn't matter, if I was to use 4 mana on let's say turn 4 for Mirri, it doesn't leave any mana open for Lightning Bolt or Terminate. Nocturnus would be the optimal card on turn 4 anyway, but the point still stands. If I had a Lacerator on turn 4, I could play it and still have mana open while still being aggressive

you want a decent size field when you drop nocturnus. 2/2 for 1 mana is amazing. and if you want another 4 mana creature, go with Olivia Voldaren

i'm gonna try out using 4 bloodghast in my build and 2 nighthawk, no olivia, see how it works by comparison. in other words, leaning more aggro than midrange.

That's funny cuz I've been wanting to try more midrange, I just don't have olivia

huh. she's amazing in all honesty. i'm just trying to see whether i like more speed or more staying power for my aggro vampires.

why you no use shrine to nyx? i use it in my mono black vampire deck, Bloodghast , Kalastria Highborn , and Vampire Nocturnus are all great for devotion you could ideally be tapping for 6+ mana on turn 3 or 4 with the right creatures out allowing you to get more of the boosters out. just a suggestion.

Hey, just to let you know, I tested something out and liked it. 1 Mutavault . All I did was drop my swamps to 5. If you can pick up a Mutavault, try it out sometime.

Well I guess its officially in a format now, its definitely wasn't standard, even before rotation that is, but who cares vampires are awesome! =) You ought to swap in Cavern of Souls
for Blackcleave Cliffs
and Marsh Flats
for Dragonskull Summit
to aid in triggering Vampire Nocturnus
but if this is a deck you physically own I wouldn't do that unless you plan on playing competitively in modern tournaments anytime soon because they will cost you out the behind. Then again, it's worth it in an eternal format if you play competitively as I said before. Underworld Connections
is also an amazing way to trigger Vampire Nocturnus
. Swap Stromkirk Noble
for Guul Draz Vampire
and Lightning Bolt
for Feast of Blood
and you will see why Vampire Nocturnus
used to cost a fortune when Vampires was a standard deck. Just sideboard Lightning Bolt
for when you need it. If you want to keep more red in the deck use Rakdos colored creatures like Falkenrath Aristocrat
or Olivia Voldaren
so that they still trigger Vampire Nocturnus
. You might try Malakir Bloodwitch
as well because she's the alternate game winner if you don't see him. But still good deck either way.

Vampire Nocturnus works beter in a mono-black vamp deck, definitely run Olivia Voldaren though
January 19, 2016 2:03 a.m.
I totally agree that it works better in mono-black. It still works pretty well in this though as it hits half of the deck. I actually made a different version of this deck to playtest with a while ago if you want to check that out. *Insert Vampire Name Here* redux

Nocturnus is fine in rakdos. Drop your summits for more fetches, throw in an urborg, maybe drop the lacerators for Viscera Seer if you're really feeling insecure about consistency.
