Into the Depths of CEDH with Emry

Commander / EDH Mono-Blue

mccabej140

Intro

The gameplan is to get Emry, Lurker of the Loch out ASAP (preferably turn 1) and combo off by atleast turn 6. The deck has quite a bit of interaction and disruption to stop any early combos. The deck has 4 main combos. Don't be afraid to mulligan aggressively. You need fast mana to get a decent head start on your opponents.

Combo 1:

Mirran Spy/Chakram Retriever+Lotus Petal Gives infinite mana

Mirran Spy/Chakram Retriever+Mishra's BaubleUrza's Bauble Gives infinite draw on next upkeep. The deck has a healthy amount of cheap counters to survive for a turn cycle.

Mirran Spy/Chakram Retriever also combo with any self-saccing 0-costed artifact to give an infinite storm count. Altar of the Brood can mill our opponents to death in this scenario and is recurrable with Emry if it gets countered.

Combo 2:

Mesmeric Orb+Basalt Monolith to mill ourselves out. Then use Conjurer's Bauble to put Freed from the Real back into the deck and draw it. Then use Emry to cast Lotus Petalor Lion's Eye Diamond from the graveyard infinitely and finish off everyone with Walking Ballista or Altar of the Brood

Combo 3:

Isochron Sceptor+Dramatic Reversal Classic Combo for infinite mana/ infinite untaps with Emry. Needs Walking Ballista or Codex Shredder to finish off opponents. I might remove these 2 cards for more interaction.

Combo 4:

Etherium Sculptor+Sensei's Divining Top+Mystic Forge draw the deck. Cast free mana rocks then cast your win-con of choice.

Notable Disruption:

Back to Basics really good since we mostly play basics.

Aether Spellbomb reusable bounce

Cyclonic Rift

Miscellaneous Notes:

Intuition might be the best card in the deck. Basically tutors 3 cards at instant speed.

The only reason I run snow lands is Arcum's Astrolabe

The deck might not have the one sided stax of Urza but Emry is faster, more resilient and harder to disrupt since Emry can recast combo pieces from the graveyard. Also, this deck has so many ways to win off of having infinite mana that having a mana sink in the command zone isn't missed as much as you would think.

I'm not running Laboratory Maniac or Jace, Wielder of Mysteries. I've found that if I'm drawing or milling my deck, I probably have infinite mana and they aren't needed. I might revisit this in the future.

If you have any suggestions or general thoughts on the deck I'd love to hear them.
