Invasion Plans (Boros Control)

Casual Control Multiplayer Pillow Fort RW (Boros)

Czernobog

Sideboard

Maybeboard

A defensive deck that concentrates on what Boros does best: combat-control. Performs well in both multiplayer and one-v-one formats. I prefer multiplayer, because it's deceptively subtle and can (passive aggressively) hold its own until secures board domination. It's tough to beat once the right cards are out. Synergies:

  • Abu Ja'far + Invasion Plans : Invasion Plans turns Abu Ja'far into a board wipe. Just assign all to creatures block him and they all die. Equipped with Infiltration Lens, you draw 2 per blocking creature. Maze of Ith, Thundersong Trumpeter, and Aurification help keep your opponent's key creatures untapped so they must block Abu Ja'Far.

  • This deck has some phenomenal draw ramp cards, esp. for red-white. Equip Infiltration Lens to Deftblade Elite, provoke even tapped creatures and pay 2 to keep him alive, you've got a reusable 2-card draw every turn. Feed Tuktuk the Explorer or bird tokens generated by Emeria Angel to your Skullclamp for more draw. Only rarely will I use Stoneforge Mystic to search for Sword of Kaldra early in the game, but odds are, I'll draw hate and will waste turns for a 4-CMC drop when I could be drawing more cards to ensure victory.

  • Sun Titan changes the momentum of the game pretty drastically. When paired with Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots, he's gonna attack the turn he comes out with shroud/hexproof and give you two cards from your graveyard. Usually, I just recover the Arid Mesa, which not only filters the deck, but uber landfall trigger for Emeria Angel. Emeria and Aurification serve as the only two cards besides the Titans with CMC >3; unfortunately however, that doesn't recover our much needed Lightning Helix. Attacking with the Titan to bring back Abu Ja'far doesn't help except as a deathtouch blocker, unless you use the Thundersong Trumpeter's ability to prevent it from blocking, otherwise opponents will attempt to use Invasion Plans to take out the board wiper.

  • Sword of Kaldra has great synergy with Deftblade Elite to target control the biggies that you can't take care of with Abu Ja'Far. Though she's currently in the sideboard, Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile can exile all blocking/attacking creatures, which can be especially cruel if you add Angel's Trumpet to the mix.

I'm pretty satisfied with this build but I'm open to suggestions for ways to improve the deck, especially the sideboard. The deck could use better game finishers, something like Seize the Day perhaps. Also more graveyard recovery would be nice. The maybeboard includes some of the cards I've been considering adding to the sideboard.
