Burn deck I'm making IRL, very budget because EDH decks are a money hole

  • Lightning Bolt: The classic, and the pinnacle of burn spells. Three damage for 1 mana is the goal for all cards in this section.

  • Lava Spike: Only sorcery speed and can only hit players, but 1 mana for three damage is always an attractive rate.

  • Skewer the Critics: Sorcery speed, so no flexibility during combat like Lightning Bolt. However, spectacle is incredibly easy to trigger in a burn deck, so it's the first bolt substitution.

  • Rift Bolt: Bolt on a timer. Incredibly obvious when it's being cast, but that hardly matters in a deck like this. The delay can also be used to stack more cast triggers in one turn, if that ever becomes relevant.

Bolts that didn't make the cut:

Wizard's Lightning: Is an instant, so positive there. However, there are only four wizards in the deck and both have a mana value of 2, so this can never be played on turn 1 or even 2.

Shard Volley: 1 mana bolt that requires sacrificing a land. I'm running tight on lands as is, so the most I would run is 1 or 2.

Fiery Temper: Must be discarded, so I could only play it alongside a Thrill of Possibility or would have to discard to hand size to get the madness cost. Both require me to be later in the game to get any value out of it's alternate cost.

Collateral Damage: Requires sacrificing a creature to cast. While there are scenarios where my creatures will become redundant, this card will not solve them by simply removing my creatures for three damage.

Not all burn spells are created equal. This section is for the spells that hit face, but cost more than or deal less than 3.

  • Play with Fire: Only deals two, but can help fix your draws if you hit face.

  • Lightning Helix: Costs an additional white mana compared to Lightning Bolt, and the lifegain will rarely be relevant, but I just like the card.

  • Boros Charm: Only hits face, but does so for four damage. Also has two additional modes for niche scenarios.

  • Flame Rift: Four damage for 2 mana, at sorcery speed. Will likely slot out for Lava Spike, especially considering how terrible it is in the mirror.

  • Monastery Swiftspear: 1 mana threat with haste, that scales up as I hit my opponent with more bolts. What's the downside?

  • Dragon's Rage Channeler: Another 1 mana threat that also fixes my draws as I bolt my opponent. Harder to hit delirium with fetchlands (why do they have to be so expensive), but can bin a land and creature on it's own to satisfy that.

  • Viashino Pyromancer: 2 mana pseudo-haste creature. I enjoyed it quite a bit during it's standard, but it could be swapped out for a more powerful card.

  • Bedlam Reveler: Bigger creature that refills my hand if the game gets long. Also has prowess, as a bonus.

  • Dreadhorde Arcanist: I originally put it in the deck to recast my bolts, but most have mana values greater than 1.

  • Vexing Devil: 1 mana to deal 4 damage looks very powerful, but my opponent can always pick the option that's the easiest for them to deal with.

There are no fetches or shocks in this deck because those are super expensive, but I would like to get some copies of Arid Mesa or Prismatic Vista to more easily enable Dragon's Rage Channeler's delirium. And yet, half this deck's pricetag is still in it's lands.

I've gotten only a small number of decks that I've played against, so my sideboard is limited.

  • Kor Firewalker: For the burn mirror. Completely untouchable by my opponent, and gains life from both side's burn spells.

  • Tunnel Ignus: For the Amulet Titan matchup. Doesn't hit the first land, so it has no effect on us, and has the added benefit of making it harder for my opponents to use fetchlands.

  • Ratchet Bomb: For the Bogles matchup. Tick it up to one and leave it there, forcing my opponents to either leave their creatures small or lose their hand. A better alternative would be Engineered Explosives, but there's a $20 price difference.

  • Remorseful Cleric: For the hypothetical graveyard matchup. Efficient body that also bricks graveyard decks.

Why's Ragavan here if the deck's supposed to be budget? I opened one, and I'm considering trading it off to build the actual deck. More than likely I'll just replace Vexing Devil, because Ragavan just wins games on it's own.
