Iron apprentice/star pupil
Deck Tech:
This deck looks to use +1/+1 counters to make big creatures and then abuse the modular mechanic to move those extra counters from threat to threat
Modular:
Arcbound Prototype and Arcbound Mouser are cheap and efficient units that keep counters in distribution and Iron Apprentice is especially nice as it can give those counters to a non-artifact creature if you run out of modular cards. I'll talk about Knighted Myr in this section as well as although it isnt modular, its a great target when one of our modular creatures dies and while not always the best option its adapt ability can be activated at instant speed(if it doesnt have any counters yet), giving it another power and double strike, sometimes acting as a powerful combat trick.
I Like Big Buffs and I Cannot Lie:
A lot of this deck is +1/+1 counter based buffs as they really can spiral out of control with modular cards. Hunger of the Howlpack is an insane card if you can get the morbid trigger while Travel Preparations and Bannerhide Krushok's reinforce ability can be more general buffs. Smell Fear gives us a form of removal which is nice but the proliferate gives us extra counters on all our dudes beforehand. Rounding out our buffs is the protection suite of Snakeskin Veil being our catch-all and a couple copies of Test of Faith for the incredibly powerful, albeit more situational effect.
Misc:
We have a few other cards to round out the list. Chronicler of Heroes is an efficient body that always draws a card. Duskshell Crawler turns all of our big modular creatures into even bigger threats with trample. Recommission bringing back a 3/3 modular("6/6" in eventual stats) feels great.
Closing Thoughts:
This deck definitely has some wacky things so get creative, ive won games hard-casting Bannerhide Krushok and it ends up as a 10/10 after Iron Apprentice dies. The Knighted Myr built in combat trick, etc etc. Really fun list and if you ignore the sb garbage every card in the list is a bulk common available for the minimum price on card kingdom. Which btw! i assume its relatively obvious but an awesome part of the pauper format is that there is a much lower cost of entry! You can build over like 30 pauper decks for the price of a modern deck.
as always any feedback, ideas, or suggestions are appreciated and if you enjoyed this deck feel free to check out my other pauper builds --> jonjonhholt
