Most exciting match tonight (went 4-1) was against UB control, winning in 3. Would have won the other game too if a T1 Thoughtseize hadn't delayed me just slightly. It was a beating. Countered his Dig Through Time, Crux of Fate, dropped a Clever Impersonator, impersonating Silumgar the Drifting Death, stealing his Silumgar. And I still beat him after he cast 2 more dragons.

Beating UB control is exactly why I designed this deck, so glad to have the build validated.

You can't legally have Clever Impersonator enter as a copy of Silumgar, the Drifting Death because he has hexproof.

Oops it was Dragonlord Silumgar in that situation. That was my mistake. But you also are wrong. Clever Impersonator doesn't target, so doesn't care about hexproof! It's one reason I love the card, as getting an Ojutai for 2UU is totally a thing.

ThorneSupremicy: Because of the wording of Clever Impersonator, you CAN copy a creature with hexproof because it doesn't target.

Overall, nice build. Out of curiosity, no Sagu Mauler?

I need answers to dragons, and flyers to sneak in damage. Sagu ain't it.

Lost twice today. In part I think people are figuring out the deck. But then again I did play against the best player in the store. Next time, will try a singleton Prophet of Kruphix as a comeback card (or a T3 pull-way-ahead card). The deck is mana-intensive and has means to protect the Prophet, so I think it can work. Cutting the Bow as it just didn't feel impactful enough. Between Raptor, Den Protector and Sphinx I think I have enough ways to attack through anyway.

Okay, reconfigure again. Went 3-2, losing to Abzan Aggro and an aggressive five color dragons. To solve Abzan, I'm maxxing Whisperwoods, and adding 2 mana guys to get there. Also main Setessan Tactics and side Disdainful Stroke. Changing Stroke for Tactics should be a wash against dragons (Dromoka can't be countered, Silumgar can't be killed), but more ramp and Whisperwoods should accelerate my attack plan.

If it's only green and blue wouldn't it just be called Simic? I mean, it's kinda hard to call it Bant without white in the mix. Great deck though. +1

Thanks! Why Bant? Call it marketing ;). There's a dozen gimicky Simic decks (morphs, assault, etc.) and this is built more like the tier 1 Bant midrange decks than those.

Nice deck, friend. Great minds, think alike. Have you seen Display of Dominance? If notit does wonders against control and everything else in standard, except mono red. +1 btw.

I was quite interested in this deck after I was looking for bant, of course. I thought about Simic creature/midrange but gave up thinking it was just a dream.

Even after looking at this list I thought it would be fun casually. To my surprise it was quite competitive after playtesting.

I don't have Deathmist Raptor so I had to make some tweaks. Never-the-less it preformed extraordinarily well.

My general concern was the lack of removal. But the components stream line well to have answers. Example: Boon Satyr throwing opponents off through blocks/enchanting.

I don't run Arbor Colossus mainboard cuz my meta doesn't have an abundance of Dragons. I do run Prophet of Kruphix in it's place. So far very good. Of course, my sideboard is changed because of meta.

I really like the Prognostic Sphinx and Whisperwood Elemental combo. I must say you have created exactly the archetype I always want to play: creatures and creatures with value. Big value.

Overall very happy with the idea. I'll continue to tweak as time goes on but you have given me a good skeleton to work with. Great job!

Cool, glad to have inspired you! Raptor is especially good against control, but so is Boon Satyr. A lot of other decks could be suitably impeded by more Polukranos, which I think is the best replacement for Raptor up to a point. Being big is often better than deathtouch, and as a bonus he's a bit of removal.

Yeah I've noticed. I'd like 3 copies in deck but that Legendary makes me weary. I can't stand having 1 on board and one sitting in hand. But it might be better than not.

I've been running 2x Heir of the Wilds and Yasova Dragonclaw in Raptor's place. The Wilds are nice cuz the deck can really be hurt if the ramp isn't around/removed. But so far I've been rather disappointed in Dragonclaw. I thought it would be better.

After 150+ games, I finally scored a draw! Mastery of the Unseen served to keep me from ending a game.

You might want to consider Hangarback Walker. It can be a massive creature with all of the pump spells you have in here.

jubale says... #19

Pump spells? Hangarback likes counters and nothing I play deals counters. "Can get big" is not a sufficient reason to play something in a green deck where lots of cards fit that description. Is it really that good?.

I mean mana producers. And yes, it is really good. When the opponent casts a board wipe, you'll be the one with creatures left over. Not to mention that they will all fly, which can overwhelm the opponent in the end.

This is got to be the funnest deck on the competitive side I've attempted to play in standard. Kudos on your build!

Simic's long been my favorite of colors. I stumbled on this archetype earlier in the year and I must say you have really perfected it.

I whipped up your decklist (with a few adjustments) and it is good.

There is heavy creatures in my meta and my deck reflects it MB and SB. Otherwise, I run 2x Windswept Heath for Courser of Kruphix/Whisperwood, thinning out the deck, and Den Protector if lands get hairy carrie

Also, question about Clever Impersonator: have examples of when you board him in?

August 30, 2015 1:10 a.m.

jubale says... #23

Thank you very much. I've been tinkering with bad decks lately, so my experience isn't there in the current meta. I should try this again.

Clever Impersonator comes against anybody that plays scary permanents. We have several of our own things to copy, but to be consistent they need to as well. So if they play anything like Siege Rhino, Stormbreath Dragon, Sorin, Elspeth, Ugin, Silumgar, Atarka, etc., bring it in.
