It Came to Me in a Flash

Commander / EDH Midrange Mono-Green

Pan163

This is my first real EDH deck. Let me know what you think.

The idea of this deck is to take full advantage of Yeva, Nature's Herald by playing a whole bunch of creatures that drastically change the dynamic of the board, either by way of an enter-the-battlefield ability, helping me win combats, or otherwise catching my opponent off-guard.

The large amount of Deathtouch creatures in the deck, such as Deadly Recluse and Ambush Viper , make attacking you perpetually risky, and even blocking your creatures can be dangerous with cards like Nylea, God of the Hunt and Nightshade Peddler potentially lurking in your hand. Even further up the curve are creatures that can give an insufficiently cautious opponent a crippling combat: an unprepared opponent can swing into a Hornet Queen, Wolfbriar Elemental, or Great Oak Guardian.

The more expensive creatures like Genesis Hydra or Terastodon give you huge advantages right before your turn comes around. Since a lot of these creatures are fairly demanding in terms of mana, I'm playing plenty of ramp or mana-acceleration creatures in place of noncreature ramp spells - for example, Sakura-Tribe Elder instead of Rampant Growth so that once Yeva is actually out they can still surprise the opponent by giving me more mana than they thought I'd have.

Also present in this deck are cards meant to substitute for removal: Reclamation Sage, Acidic Slime and especially Bane of Progress are all excellent examples of this. And in order to help me find the right answers at the right time are cards like Woodland Bellower, Fierce Empath and Mwonvuli Beast Tracker .

In order to get as much value as I can out of every creature I play, I also have several creatures that give significant rewards every time a new body hits the field. Cards like Garruk's Packleader and Soul of the Harvest are particularly valuable.

The few creatures in this deck that lack enter-the-battlefield effects and don't reward me for playing more creatures instead take full advantage of catching an opponent by surprise. Ulvenwald Tracker at end of turn can create a sudden removal engine that your opponents didn't see coming. Garruk's Horde essentially gives me an extra chance to get more creatures, and Thunderfoot Baloth is a game-ender by itself.

The only noncreature spells this deck plays are just too good to not use - things like Sol Ring and Harmonize.

On a quick side-note, I am working on a bit of a budget here, so cards like Sylvan Library and Craterhoof Behemoth are a tiny bit out of reach at this point in time.

Lots of games today! Had one four-player, one three-player, and two 1v1s.

Four-player game:

-Nekusar, the Mindrazer

-Selvala, Explorer Returned

-Nicol Bolas

Outcome: Victory for Nekusar, the Mindrazer.

Three-player game:

-Yeva, Nature's Herald

-Treva, the Renewer

-Doran, the Siege Tower

Outcome: Victory for Yeva, Nature's Herald.

One versus one:

-Yeva, Nature's Herald

-Kresh the Bloodbraided

Outcome: Two games, one victory for each.

Overall, pretty good! I need to get my hands on a physical copy of Fierce Empath soon, however.
