The Deck
With the banning of
Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis
and
Faithless Looting
graveyard decks have taken a massive hit. Hogaak decks are gone entirely,
Arclight Phoenix
decks are basically gone too, dredge is severely weakened as well. This means that people will no longer be running main deck graveyard hate or have four
Leyline of the Void
s in their sideboards. This means that the Modern metagame is wide open and I have built a list to hopefully exploit it.
The deck is a mixture of your typical Hollow one deck combined with a phoenix deck.
**The Faithless Lootings**
The deck NEEDS a lot of
Faithless Looting
effects to work so we're running as many as possible. Obvious we can't run
Faithless Looting
and that may seem as a huge downside but this deck is hurt the least by the looting ban as there are so many other ways to draw and discard that the effect of its downside are minimized.
Cathartic Reunion
: gives targeted discard for Arclights and
Bloodghast
s.
Goblin Lore
: Draw, discard simple.
Seasoned Pyromancer
: Excellent card in the deck, gives bodies and allows you to play
Faithless Looting
legally.
Burning Inquiry
: Definitely the best looting effect despite the random discard, allows for turn 1
Hollow One
s and also disrupts your opponents hands.
**The Phoenix Cards**
Since the deck does have
Arclight Phoenix
we need cards to get it back so we need a high instant and sorcery package.
Manamorphose
: Free spell, replaces itself. Simple.
Lava Dart
: really good in the deck, counts for two spells if cast from your hand and has a free flashback cost.
Finale of Promise
: Allows for two casts towards phoenix and allows you to reuse discard or spent spells.
**The Beaters**
Arclight Phoenix
: Great attacker, has haste, plus is usual free to get out.
Hollow One
: Free 4/4 that can come out as early as turn one, whats not to like?
Bloodghast
: Smaller Phoenix.
Gurmag Angler
: With all the cards getting dumped in the yard Angler is one 5/5, seems good.
**Other Stuff**
Of course we can't build a modern deck without removal so we have
Lightning Bolt
s and a
Magmatic Sinkhole
, we don't really need more as do to all the digging we're doing we come across these quite frequently.
