It's beginning to look a lot like Grixis.

Well, at 8 if they want to use her -7 and have her stick around

+1 from me man. Loving this deck. Took some ideas from it, as well as a few other Grixis control decks when looking to build mine. Would love some feedback from you if you get a chance Crowd Control

I think the question to ask regarding Erebos is whether you need him or not. If you play against a lot of MBD and UW Control and you have trouble with them, then by all means add one or two. But in such cases, I would probably sideboard him until I need him, again, unless you play against a lot of MBD and UW Control. If so, keep him in the mainboard.
I have to agree with harrydemon117 about the lifegain though. One card for two life and two mana is incredibly steep a cost to pay. Something like underworld connections is much more efficient in its cost and we haven't been using that because of the lifeloss issue, so I don't see how Erebos' draw would be any better.

As far as draw spells go, I think that Pilfered Plans is good as it also messes up scry attempts. Opportunity is the closest thing that we get to a Sphinx's Revelation and I run one maindeck in my build (another in the sideboard to come in against slower midrange/control decks), and obviously Jace, Architect of Thought
Having to pay life to draw for Grixis is bad as we don't have much lifegain. MAN I miss Vampire Nighthawk lol

harrydemon117 Haha, I hear you man. I dislike opportunity so I won't play it. Erebos is probably meta relevent so it works where I am, but if I play this at the Atlanta open then I would not play Erebos. I would probably add 2 thassa, or maybe 2 divination. Either way, I love the way the deck is turning out. Thanks to everyone for their advice, opinion and support. Maybe I will win FNM this week!

Why do you dislike Opportunity ? Instant speed draw is what makes control decks drool

So I feel stupid but I definitely thought it was a sorcery o.O lol Yeah, I think 1 Opportunity could be a good idea....lol

I was gonna say... It ESPECIALLY works in my build as it says "target player" so if I mill out my opponent and want to win RIGHT NOW I can make them draw :)

Great deck and I love that you are playing Grixis. Kind of inspired me to make up my own build. Grixis is Hella ScaryCheck it out and shoot me some suggestions.

Bahaha, yeah harrydemon117 I have no idea what I was thinking. That is a much better fit. =) Can't wait to take this to FNM!

Have you tried Duress ? I've been thinking about adding four into the sideboard against control. As it doesn't incur any life lose, it may be a good supplement to the two Thoughtseize you main without risking death.

The problem with Duress is that it cannot hit an AEtherling , Blood Baron of Vizkopa , or even a Sin Collector early against Esper. Thoughtseize makes you may 2 life yes, but if you snatch that ONE card they were counting on using against you it's WORTH it. Control matchups aren't going to kill you quickly so the life loss to me is more of a resource

Oh but I wasn't proposing to abandon Thoughtseize and replace it, but rather to complement the 2-3 already in the deck with Duress .
February 28, 2014 10:22 a.m.
I've thought about duress because it hits sweepers, kill spells, enchantments, and planes walkers. It will probably go in place of nighthowler if I don't like how it plays.

How did it go at FNM last night? I'm curious to hear your views on Essence Scatter and Nighthowler .
March 1, 2014 1:25 p.m.
Awesome! Essence Scatter went pretty well, but I really loved the card draw the most. I think I'm going to tinker with Read the Bones or perhaps Negate in place of Essence Scatter. Nighthowler was a beast because I knew my meta was G/R Monsters, White Weenie, etc. Everytime he came in he was a 6/6 or bigger and I won a ton of games with him. I ended up going 4-1 and took Third! I really don't see why this deck can't be tier 1, as I beat all 3 top tier decks, Esper, UW and Mono Black. I'll be playing tomorrow in a Game Day tournament so I hope it works out well!

Oh and FYI, LIfebane Zombie is a must based off the top 8 decks. It kills all Creature decks and helped me exile Boon Satyr, Polukranos, Boros Reckoner, and more. I think Duress in the SB would be a good idea too.

Can't wait to hear about it. I've been mulling over further changes to my deck and I like some of the cards you've chosen.
March 1, 2014 2:19 p.m.
I really like the deck x1 though maybe you could add 2 goblin guide in place of a couple of lands
March 1, 2014 6:50 p.m.
mplace101 I would add Goblin Guide if it were Standard legal. =D Thanks though!

Secret deck tech I'm willing to share (only to fellow Grixis players haha)
Illness in the Ranks was a good card for me to defend against a resolved Assemble the Legion , but it ALSO blanks out Elspeth, Sun's Champion for at LEAST 4 turns as she will need to be at 8 before getting an emblem. You get that many more turns to dig for an answer to her before she goes off. If they want to use a Detention Sphere on it to exile it, it just makes OUR win cons easier to "stick"
