Nice list! This makes me want to get back into standard. The only suggestion I can throw out there is maybe swapping 1 Far / Away for a one-of Cyclonic Rift . What you lose in flexibility, you gain in randomly hosing your opponent's board in the late game when you just need to push in the last few points of damage.

Chandra was a bust when I ran Master of Cruelties . Ral Zarek was better as he actually removed certain things and tapped down a blocker so I could "get in the endzone".

He is also surprisingly good at "ramping" when you need him to for a bigger Rakdos's Return

@harrydemon117: I do quite like Ral Zarek myself, and if possible, I'd love to justify two spots for him in my deck again. I also think that you are right about Chandra, Pyromaster . She fits better in a deck with a lot of burn or something like G/R Monsters that uses ramping to shove a continuous stream of creatures into an opponent's face faster than they can be removed. But even then, she serves a secondary role to draw machines like Domri Rade .

This is true, but she is a terrible top deck when you need one. Ral Zarek removes more creatures than she does.

I ended up dropping both and running a full 4 of Jace, Architect of Thought for the extra draw

Yeah, I just playtested her and I was not impressed! YUCK! lol 4 Jaces is way better. I'll let you know how tonight goes!

Ral Zarek is not a bad planeswalker. His problem is that Izzet by itself is just terrible right now and he doesn't work as well when a third color is added.

Agreed. He isn't bad, in fact Journey into Nyx could make him awesome, and that would be cool, but then he would rotate in like 5 months. Oh well. I really like the way the deck is performing right now, and I'm really glad I went back to the Nightveil Specters. Hopefully they perform tonight.

Nightveil Specter sounds like a REALLY good addition. If only you had green for things like Sylvan Caryatid to help cast them lol.

How was Hypersonic Dragon ?

Have you ever tried out Desecration Demon ? He seems like he would be strong for a deck where you are constantly denying your opponent their creatures and so cannot tap him down.

Yup, I've played him. It's a pretty good card but I don't necessarily feel like he is needed. It's really meta dependent.

Fair enough. How have you found Dimir Charm ? When i had a davel into grixis a while back i looked at it but dismissed it straight away. Now im starting to have another go at building a deck and i juts wondered if its actually helpfull.

Dimir Charm is incredible. Its ability to kill weak creatures is great versus aggro, most of the creatures of MUD, Pack Rat , and Gray Merchant of Asphodel . Its ability to counter sorceries is also great, particularly against control. The last ability is icing on the cake as it allows for the disruption of scry. In short, it's extremely versatile, a viable counter to so many decks, and it's cheap to boot.

What are you doing to get your deck "more attention"? I keep seeing that someone has +1'd your deck at least once every couple of days.

Do you have a paid account and are getting more exposure?

Sabbath91 Dimir charm is probably one of the best instants in the deck. It kills Mutavault who his annoying and most recently I found it kills Courser of Kruphix which is a centerpiece of the monsters decks.

I've liked hypersonic so far but have not been able to playtest it enough. I'd say that either of the dragons are a good idea. Nightveil Specter is my most recent addition. I played it when I first built the deck along with frostburn weird. It was a more midrange deck and not cruel control. I'm very very happy I went back to him. So far this deck has been great. I would highly suggest anyone building Grixis to add elixir of immortality. It's saved me more than I can count already. I went 2-1 on Friday before I had to drop to attend a fantasy baseball draft. Lol I lost to B/W Control but it went to game 3. I beat a really bad mill deck and GR Monsters.

Lemme guess, Blood Baron of Vizkopa resolved and you couldn't do anything to him right?

It was actually Ghost Daddy. I made him sac his Baron.

Yeah, I figured it was one of the two. I started thinking about adding in 1 or 2 Rapid Hybridization in the sideboard just for that matchup
