If someone is playing Chained to the Rocks , Viper's Kiss or Domestication against grixis then you already have card advantage against them. Madcap Skills and Unflinching Courage are fine to play against as you can just 2 for 1 your opponent will a kill spell --> more card advantage.
The only problem there is Underworld Connections but you can just Pithing Needle whatever land it is enchanting.
Also benwah3000, I tried drawing 10 hands with your grixis deck to see how consistantly you can hit T2 UU for Nullify . I only got 4/10, which is far from consistant. 8/10 i had at least 1 U on turn 2.
There is nothing wrong with Essence Scatter for countering creatures and easing your mana base.

Any conclusions from that conversation with the pro player that you can pass along?

Wow...such a following of Grixis but yet your deck gets all the attention and mine doesn't lol. Just because you have a "paid" account haha

harrydemon117 don't be jealous. Lol the name also draws people in and the fact that I've shared it with friends and I always deck cycle around lunch and end of the business day. Just have to be strategic. Lol

Ha! I will start "brewing" up a new name for mine. Maybe "DrFunk27's It's beginning to look a lot like Grixis 2.0"!

Why Sire Of Insanity mainboard?
Also, since you aren't running any burn apart from Rakdos's Return do you need Master of Cruelties ? He can't win a game on his own and so needs assistance from something else that can cause damage.
I've been inspired to rebuild my own grixis deck as well so ill probably be asking a lot of questions soon haha.

harrydemon117 Haha! To bad my name takes up the entire character limit. lol
Sabbath91 Sire is in because I believe this deck needs to have cards that have game against the field game 1. There are to many Esper and U/W decks around to not play at least one of these main board. You're right about not having burn to win, but Master is a great blocker and taking anyone down to one life puts them at big disadvantage. I may have to go back to adding in 2 Magma Jet but I don't know what I would take out.

I just can't see how sire is good, I mean you discard your hands too!
March 21, 2014 12:44 a.m.
You have to wait for the right time to play him:
You have to clear the field and make sure you can have him resolve. After that yes you also have no hand but you have a 6/4 creature to your opponent's nothing which your opponent needs to top deck an answer for in ~3 turns or he loses.
In this situation, he works really nicely with Dimir Charm .

Ty for the comment on my grixis build, I am trying to keep it mostly creature less, with only the 1 of AEtherling but I really like the hypersonic dragon your using, I run a lot of sorceries in my build, and it would be fantastic to have that at instant speed. Ty for the ideas, +1 for grixis love.

phaze08 Sire is a complete shut down on all control. Even if they top deck Sphinx's Revelation, and they play it on my turn, they still have to discard because it's every end step. Dimir Charm works well with shaping what they draw into. I think Sire will stay SB but he always comes in against any control matchup.

no Pilfered Plans or Psychic Strike ? might as well run it with black in the deck.
March 21, 2014 9:15 p.m.
Built my Grixis and tested it at it's first FNM, it did well :) Mind giving it a look?
Has having Mutavault ever caused any problems for you with 3 colours? Im temptep to try it myself but i dont want to trade for it when it's so pricey right now if it isnt worth it.
March 21, 2014 10:22 p.m.
Extra_Krispyyy Dissolve is better than Psychic Strike for it's Scry 1. I did play around with Pilfered Plans but I've gone back to playing Divination for it's U2 cost. I'll probably go back to Pilfered Plans though.

have you considered running like 1 Rogue's Passage ? when they poop out lil flyers depending on the deck, your night veil loses a lot of potential. additionally, your master of cruelties becomes the most powerful and scary dude out there. just a thought.

Thassa is a better option than Rogue's Passage. The former gives you a free scry a turn and costs much less to make a creature unblockable. The latter only provides a colorless mana, which is not very useful in a three color deck, and the cost to make a creature unblockable is much higher. DrFunk was running Thassa earlier, but no longer does.
March 22, 2014 5:09 p.m.
Dreno33 Initially I thought about Rogue's Passage but like Omphaloskeptic said Thassa works/worked much better. I took out Thassa but honestly I wouldn't mind having it back in the deck. Scrying every turn is incredibly powerful in a control deck.

DrFunk, I really admire your drive to continue experimenting. I tend to be way more conservative than you, preferring to stick to a card once it has proved itself to me. But your approach is better in the long run. Sure, you may err and blow some games by experimenting, but when you chance upon a great addition, the payoff becomes worth the risk.

Hey, I've been thinking about sideboard options...what do you think of Psychic Intrusion
? Against midrange/control it's funny to steal a win con and play it yourself. If there hand is all garbage just take something from their graveyard that you already killed (or better yet take a counterspell).
I was thinking vs Esper it would be good to take out their AEtherling or Elspeth, Sun's Champion and turn it against them. Possible 2 for 1 at least
March 23, 2014 12:46 p.m.
Taking an opposing AEtherling by whatever means and using it as your own isnt usually a good idea as if you blink the AEtherling , it enters the battlefield back under your opponents controll.
I think Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is better at stealing opposing threats and forcing a 2-for-1 than Psychic Intrusion though. Plus Psychic Intrusion doesnt interact well with Rakdos's Return . Thats my opinion anyway

That's why you don't blink him. If they use a removal spell on him then you just effectively 2 for 1'd them
March 23, 2014 1:08 p.m.
True, I guess that's one way of looking at it.
I totally skipped over the "graveyard or hand" bit and thought it was only hand, my bad. May be a bit more playable than i gave it credit for as if they respond to it, you can still cast the card they responded with from the graveyard. That puts them in a tough spot if they have Sphinx's Revelation in hand: If they cast it in responce, you get a bigger hand to pick from but could still choose the sphinx's in the graveyard or they can not cast it and just straight away lose it.
May be worth a try actually.
March 23, 2014 1:28 p.m.
I side board 1 in my deck. I love the idea of Psychic Intrusion but out of the 5 times I've used it I never really contributed a win to it. To me 5 mana for taking 1 card THEN paying for that card just isn't really worth the high cost. I may use it sometimes but there are better ways to remove/steal threats.

benwah3000 Why would someone play Viper's Kiss or Domestication? Haven't seen either yet. Chained, Madcap and Connections obviously, but I'm still not sold on playing Nullify. Why not just play Negate and then just kill the creatures. Negate is superior to Nullify anyways. Also, I did play Dissolve this last weekend at an IQ, so I'm not saying it's a bad card. lol
