Archive Trap is a must, at least 2. Fetches and other digging is extremely popular and archive trap is a free spell.

I agree with Archive Trap and Breaking , I'd recommend you check out my modern Mill deck and follow the link on the description to the deck I drew my inspiration from.

July 23, 2014 3:18 p.m.

That title is awesome. +1.

No Surgical Extraction ? It's the same as Extirpate but you don't have to actually spend mana on it if you don't want to.

canterlotguardian Agreed, that is a much better option.

Luutamo I definitely agree :) Oh and man that land is beautiful! Talk about all the landfall triggers!

Thanks guys!

Switch Tome Scour with Mind Funeral .+1

I don't typically like mill decks, but I will hand it to you, this is a pretty quick mill deck with a lot to offer on screwing your opponent. So +1 for me. Also, don't forget Extirpate has the split second ability that works well against control or fast decks.

First of all, I'd like to upvote Rejex's comment!

Very sweet mill deck! I really like the use of Surgical Extraction and Haunting Echoes to further thin the deck of any multiple copies they have of their combo cards!

But, I guess I would question the use of Breaking / Entering . Why not Mind Sculpt ? It's one less card, but is easier to play because it's mono-coloured. What if you have two blue on turn two?!

July 24, 2014 11:23 p.m.

Ghost Quarter also works well with both Hedron Crab just destroy your own and search for another or with Archive Trap to play it for free and destroy one of there better lands

I think that Thought Scour totally outclasses Pilfered Plans in every way. Scour is an instant and costs 2 less, with the only downside being you draw 1 less card. I don't know how much you've playtested this deck, but being able to do more on turn 1 helps out a lot. I'd also think about cutting 1-2 lands for more aggro hate, which imo are the toughest matchups. Cutting 2 lands for 2 Ensnaring Bridge would help since you're never going to attack with creatures yourself it looks like (although I personally love dropping Jace's Phantasm to dissuade my opponents from attacking). Since the Oboro land is legendary and you have more higher-cost cards than some builds I've seen, I suggest cutting 2 of them for 2 Shelldock Isle s, which have helped me close out many a game. Also consider finding room for 1-2 Crypt Incursion somewhere in your 75, as I've gained 45+ life from it in matches before and the opponent couldn't come back after that big of a life swing. If you'd like to see my competitive mill deck, here it is- Greatest Modern Milling Machine Ever Made!

I would agree that Thought Scour is better than Pilfered Plans , I personally don't like Ensnaring Bridge because T3 I'd rather drop a mindfuneral or a second Glimpse the Unthinkable or a Breaking and a Visions of Beyond or Thoughtscour and I tend to empty my hand pretty quick. I'd recommend the full 4 Archive Trap with maybe even a Trapmaker's Snare thrown in as the 'fifth'.

Haunting Echoes is very interesting... my only concern is that it is too slow, at 5 mana.

Oh, and instead of Far / Away I like Go for the Throat for removal (unless you want to splash white for Path to Exile and Disenchant )

July 25, 2014 12:52 p.m.

I think you should throw in a couple Thoughtseize to make sure your opponents don't have any counter spells on turn one before milling them.
