All good, I've missed more obvious combos before. Happens to the best of us.

No, Darkslick Shores is definitely a land that should be in here. It's easy early mana for no life cost. I would cut 2 Watery Grave, 1 Island, and 1 Swamp, and add 2 Darkslick Shores and 2 Sunken Ruins

@DuTogira Broken Ambitions seems like a nice card to use. I'm just not sure what I would take out. Maybe a Surgical Extraction and a Inquisition of Kozilek since they all serve the same general purpose.

@vishnarg i'm not doubting the power of Darkslick Shores or Sunken Ruins . I had them in the deck when I was initially constructing it. They were powerful, but there is more synergy with the fetches than those.

I'm not sure if you would want to use it, as it would usually lead to severe over-drawing, but you could consider Dream Salvage instead of Visions of Beyond .

@Raishen717, do you have a combo off of Archive Trap in this deck so you don't have to pay the mana cost? Didn't recognize anything at a glance. Thanks.

shedidthistome the point of Archive Trap isn't to use it when you search your own library. It's rather a lurking punishment for any deck that tries to fetch any card whatsoever (a 13 card punishment at least, which is absolutely brutal).

@DuTogira, I never said anything about searching my own library. I was just wondering if there was something in this deck to go along with using Archive Trap so you don't have to pay the mana cost...

I see... Well unless I've missed it too for the past week, no there is not. The only way to cast Archive Trap for free is to use it when our opponent tutors/fetches. And given the popularity of fetch lands, this happens extremely often, so while this deck has no way to guarantee that Archive Trap may be cast for free, the current meta takes care of that problem nicely with fetch lands.

Use Ghost Quarter to make you opponent search their library for a land. Do you use Ghost Quarter as well for the landfall trigger?

DuTogira says... #10

Aaaand I completely missed that. Dang.

@DuTogira

@shedidthistome

@Kasroc

Yep ghost quarter is used for both the landfall trigger and the forced search

@Raishen717, how is this doing in your local meta? I might want to try and make this or something similar to this for modern one week at my LGS. Looks plain fun and throws a wrench into people's expectations, strategies, and sideboard. What are a few of the money cards here? Trying to figure out about how much it would cost to throw this together. Thanks!

shedidthistome if you cut the fetch lands the deck costs around 200$ (give or take 50$ish).... those fetch lands though. Value!

What is your opinion about Mind Grind in this deck

December 5, 2014 9:16 a.m.

Raishen717 says... #15

@Kasroc In my opinion Mind Grind is a fun and powerful card. Just no in this deck. At best its a T5 mill to 3 lands; which can be done better by Mind Funeral and still leave 2 mana open for other spells. I.e Glimpse the Unthinkable

@Raishen717 Also what about Gitaxian Probe and Increasing Confusion?

Rather trivial query here: What would you do if your opponent were able to land a Wheel of Sun and Moon onto the battlefield?

December 21, 2014 8:58 p.m.

Raishen717 says... #18

@cmskinny Well to be honest I had never even heard of Wheel of Sun and Moon before reading your comment. I would guess that my best bet would be to either catch it with an Inquisition of Kozilek or mill it away and Extirpate/Surgical Extraction it.

if you're running creatures at all you need to play esper mill, if not treat it like "dimir burn" where you're milling them as fast as possible

tyforthevenom says... #20

also Treasure Cruise fits the "dimir burn" quite well coz it'll refuel your hand

ChaseSQ says... #21

You should add Mind Sculpt. I believe it mills 7 cards verses the 2 that Thought Scour mills. Although you draw an extra card with Though Scour, I would add Mind Sculpt for a faster mill.

Raishen717 says... #22

@tyforthevenom You mention "dimir burn" and "esper mill". I can't say i'm familiar with either of these terms. Care to elaborate?

@ChaseSQ To be honest I'm on the fence about that one as well. In playtesting some the extra card draw was relevant, but at the same time I do like the prospect of faster mill. The other aspect to consider is cmc. Mind Sculpt in 2cmc and Thought Scour is 1cmc. While that may sound irrelevant it does open the door for more interactions on T1 and T3+.

Very True @Raishen717

Not much to say...great mill deck. +1 of course.

dimir burn is 60 card burn it focuses purely on speeding through your opponents decks with instants and sorceries forgoing things like creatures and anything without an immediate effect

esper mill is a more control style list it runs 4 ghost quarter 4 path to exile and uses fetchlands to their best effect thanks to Hedron Crab
