Well guys, turns out those weirdos were right: THE MACHINES ROSE UP IN THE YEAR 2000 TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD! Expect they actually rose up in the year 2003 with the release of the MTG set "Mirrodin" to enslave us, their fleshy masters.
This is Affinity, or "robots". Our goal as the pilot of this deck is to slam as many small artifact dudes as possible as we can in as few turns as possible and slam them sideways at our opponent. We are the aggro deck, but better yet we are an EXTREMELY fast aggro deck with a decent way of keeping card advantage against the other aggro decks.
Card choices:
Arcbound Ravager: Lets start with the feature card shall we? This is the terrifying boogey man that terrorized standard players for quite some time. He even has his shining mug on a short list of cards that were BANNED from standard in their day, right next to Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Stoneforge Mystic. He allows us to come down out of nowhere and just win. A flooded board in which our opponent is tapped out and has just one guy they can't block, means we can just go on a sac train and chuck it all on the little robot who came through.
Etched Champion: Metalcraft is pretty hard to achieve when you're playing all artifacts and 4 of your lands are even artifacts AND the guy with the metalcraft ability is an artifact himself... right? All sarcasm aside, he's two unblockable damage and is hard as all hell to remove. He tends to wear a Cranial Plating pretty well.
Ornithopor/Memnite: These two make the deck consistent, and truly just fast as all get out. Memnite swings for one and ups our Affinity/Metalcraft count. Ornithoptor adds to said metalcraft/affinity count and can also swing down with a cranial plating or along side a Signal Pest for some damage.
Signal Pest: Cheap to play, makes everything that much more painful to block and even more painful to NOT block as it turns out.
Vault Skirge: Rarely does he come down for 2 mana, its usually a colorless and 2 life. That is just fine by us those when you're slaming a dude that gains it back and then some, did I mention he flies?
Master of Etherium: Whoo. What can I say about this guy except wow. He's an anthem effect on a dude with some scary potential to come down on turn 2 and be pretty huge? He is simply amazing here as a plausible finisher.
Mox Opal: Kind of staple here. In this deck it can literally be used as a second land drop on the same turn and be used to slam a 2 drop turn one, or the occasional 3 drop on turn two. The fact that it taps for any color is pretty relevant as well. Did I mention it costs 0 to play?
Springleaf Drum
: It ramps with our 0 drops, color fixes, AND it adds to our affinity/metalcraft count. Kinda hard to not run 4.
Cranial Plating: This is one of the crown jewels of the deck. Placed on ANY creature in this deck it becomes an immediate threat. It comes down for only two mana, and if you have the double black with all your color sources it even has INSTANT SPEED ATTACHMENT. Um, instant speed? Swing all out and just slap it on the unblocked creature? Sweet.
Steelshaper's Gift: This is a more personal choice for the deck, but this is essentially Cranial Plating #5 for the deck. This one of tutor can be just crucial when searching for that Cranial Plating that just sends your hand/board state over the edge.
Thoughtcast
: You know how aggro decks need to make sure they don't run out of gas? That is why we have this more often than not, U: draw two cards. It turns out that one mana divinations are pretty good.
Dispatch: This is our Path to Exile, except they don't get a land back. I hear thats pretty good.
The Lands...
Darksteel Citadel: Its an artifact, its a land, its an artifact land! It also happens to be the only one not banned in modern, and its indestructible too as it turns out.
Blinkmoth Nexus: Because just CASTING dudes just isn't enough, we put them on our lands too. It flies, its an artifact and doesn't die to the sweepers.
Inkmoth Nexus: Its a Blinkmoth Nexus that delivers lethal with 10 damage instead of 20. It gets a little scary with Cranial Plating or Arcbound Ravager.
Glimmervoid: Its a rainbow... land. This allows us to
Thoughtcast
, Dispatch, Steelshaper's Gift, and use the instant speed equip on Cranial Plating.
