This deck is walks a fine line of being a group slug type deck. The deck aims to lower everyone else's life totals while preserving its own. So that I leverage their theoretically low life total on cards like Cleansing, Choice of Damnations, and Torment of Hailfire to be super effective and close out the game.

It accomplishes this goal in two ways:

• 1: Providing choices for use of life for a desired effect (pain’s reward/ Illicit Auction) or as penance (Mogis, God of Slaughter/ Crimson Honor Guard).
  
  
• 2: Encouraging my opponent’s to hit each other not me by making damaging me hurtful (Dread/  Flameblade Angel).

Taxation vs. Choice

Many players tend to suggest cards like Ghostly Prison and Mana Leak these are in my opinion taxation cards. I don’t consider these to be actual choices as they player generally is unable to choose the extra cost. However cards like Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs and Perplex provide a similar effect while providing the opponent valid choices even if they don't have mana available.
