Maybeboard

Before you play

One of the big challenges you will face when playing this deck is maintaining a clear boardstate. That means that you absolutely will have to create about 4 clear physical copies of all the enchantments and creatures you play. Having multiple differently enchanted and mutated creatures on the board is not the exception but the norm for this deck especially if you build more around copying Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief multiple times. I recommend printing out the cards.

Also some remarks about this current list: There are alot of ways to build around Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief, most recently it got a very viable Poison synergy through Venerated Rotpriest. The current list represents the deck as I play it today, which includes poison as a viable way to kill atleast 1 other player. However, depending on how you want to play or what cards you own, all the cards in the Maybeboard are absolutely viable to play in this Deck. The cards in the acquire board can also be played, however I do not consider them to be as good.

Main Strategy and Weaknesses

Main Strategy

The main Strategy for this deck is to have a high synergy creature like Stormchaser Drake or Spellwild Ouphe on the board together with Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief and then targeting them with auras and mutate spells. These will copy themselves onto Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief giving double the value. After that its mostly beat down with buffed creatures- so essentialy a voltron strategy. In the best case you additionally have cards like Setessan Champion and Vesuvan Duplimancy on the board which will draw additional cards and provide you with more creatures or auras. Note that mutating Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief will remove her legendary tag so you can have multiple copies of her. This creates insane boardstates if not handled by your opponents. Then you finish the game with cards like Corrupted Conscience or Ancestral Mask. The main challenge getting there is interaction of your opponents- Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief dies to almost everything and she is vital for the strategy to work. Thats why some of the most important spells you have are your protection spells as boardwipes and even single target removal can easily mess with your gameplan. You should always leave mana open for them if possible. Most of them cost 1 mana.

How to play

It is important to note that this is not an aggro deck - it is more of a fast midrange/value deck. The synergies and combos are extremely reliant on its Commander Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief so its absolutely vital to protect her. There is no reason to play her on curve if you can't immediatly utilise her ability to get tons of value or if you don't have cards to protect her. The worst that can happen for this deck is her being removed the turn she hits the board- which is very easy as she literally dies to almost everything. Her dying 2 times in the early turns will essentially shut down your game plan for good. For this reason, you want to have at least 3 mana when you play her, so you have 1 mana open to cast a protection spell like Slip Out the Back or Tyvar's Stand. An ideal hand will consist of 1 synergy creature like Stormchaser Drake or Spellwild Ouphe, 1 Mana Dork like Birds of Paradise, 2-3 Lands, 1 Protection Spell like Slip Out the Back or Tyvar's Stand and 1 Spell to draw cards like Frog Tongue or Combat Research. People will definetly want to remove Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief as quick as possible so always keep in mind that you absolutely need to keep her alive.
