Maybeboard

Izzet a Bird in the Sky? No! It's Thunder, Fire and Dragons! lol

I'm somehow new to MTG and this is my first EDH/Commander deck. English itsn't my mother tongue and ANY suggestions and comments are welcome:)

The deck is definitely (best) for 1vs1, but also usable for multiplayer. Also make sure to check out the short section of the description where I write about using Melek, Izzet Paragon as the commander.

Don't worry about only playing with 34 lands - With only five lands EBT, the great draw advantage and the mana-artifacts (Chromatic Lantern, Gilded Lotus and Caged Sun) I've never been behind. Furthermore Keranos get to ping his way to victory!

There is lots of ways for this deck to win! One of the best ways might be by clearing enemy board with burns and counters and letting your creatures swing in. Otherwise there is enough potential ping and late game X-mana-brun spells to finish off your opponent.

Utvara Hellkite + other dragons/Dragonmaster Outcast/Sarkhan's Triumph. (Look at that art similarity)

Talrand, Sky Summoner and/or Young Pyromancer + inst./sorc.

Keranos, God of Storms + Thassa, God of the Sea: You wanna draw or burn?<3

Jace's Sanctum/Baral, Chief of Compliance/Pyromancer's Goggles/Primal Amulet   + ()burn spells. Even more sweet with Curse of Bloodletting.

Creature prescence (e.g. your tokens) or just a single creature and a kicked Rite of Replication + River's Rebuke/Cyclonic Rift. Again even more sweet with Curse of Bloodletting.

Caged Sun + Chromatic Lantern can ramp your mana up insanely! Combine it with the -brun spells and win.

Oh ... And ... You could also "double" some of the creature combos with Cackling Counterpart/Rite of Replication and inst./sorc. combos with Increasing Vengeance, Reverberate, Twincast, Primal Amulet   and Pyromancer's Goggles<3

Finally Ral Zarek + Primal Wellspring/Gilded Lotus/Pyromancer's Goggles can make some pretty sweet combos too:)

Otherwise just take another shot with the combos by pulling your inst./sorc. back from your graveyard. Or steal your enemy's win-conditions creatures with Treachery, Bribery and/or Dominus of Fealty.

Since Cyclonic Rift is one of the best board "cleares", we will use just about that one. You can "always" tutor it, get it back from your graveyard or use the bad ass Balefire Dragon + burns to get rid of your enemy's creatures. Otherwise Curse of the Swine is now in the deck as well. Comet Storm and River's Rebuke is also there for you<3

Make sure not to run all your win condition creatures at the same time: Utvara Hellkite and Balefire Dragon is nice together, but not if Talrand, Sky Summoner and/or Young Pyromancer is already present - We don't want a board clearer to ruin all of your plans at once:)

Furthermore most of the 'X-cost burn spells' are mostly meant for late game. Often try to mulligan those if you get them in your starting hand.

This deck isn't based on artifacts and therefor the artifacts in the deck are carefully chosen and really powerfull, you could therefor easily consider to copy Fabricate if possible:) Fabricate is mainly meant for tutoring your Gilded Lotus/Caged Sun/The Immortal Sun and possibly Chromatic Lantern/Sol Ring. Of course if you're late game, or don't need the extra mana, Pyromancer's Goggles can be the sweetest finisher<3

Commander's Sphere  is greater than all the Cluestones (Izzet Cluestone). It's also a great combo with Mystical Tutor.

Beside simply copying a great creature with Cackling Counterpart you are also able to kinda save it from being destroyed/exiled. Before a destroying or exiling spell (like Hero's Downfall) resolves, you can copy your vulnerable creature with instant Cackling Counterpart and make sure a token of it is still left<3

Curse of the Swine can also be used on your own 1/1 Elemental tokens to boost them;b

If your enemy have a too powerful permanent at board, and you didn't manage to counterspell it, what could you do? If it's a creature you could of course try to kill it with your lovely -brun spells, but you might not have the mana/want to use all that mana. You could Curse of the Swine or Cyclonic Rift just that creature, but it will probably just return next turn. Instead a great solution is Chaos Warp or Imprisoned in the Moon<3 The Warp is one of the only cards in the Izzet colors which is actually capable of taking totally care of any permanent.

(With specific rules:) Hinder can be the sweetest counter spell for your opponent's commander. By putting their commander at the bottom of their library, they are not secured to cast it anytime soon and that can for sure ruin a whole game.

This deck doesn't totally rely on Keranos, God of Storms as its commander. The deck is lethal in it self and therefor you could easily use it as a basic output and change it to fit the Izzet-commander you prefer:).

An alternative commander could be Melek, Izzet Paragon. He has the power to double all of the deck's burn-spells or copy the removal spells. If you would like to try this guy, I recommend switching out some of the creature cards, with inst./sorc. cards. Examples could be to change:

Balefire Dragon with Blasphemous Act or Insurrection

Utvara Hellkite with Call the Skybreaker

Mercurial Chemister with Divination or Rapid Hybridization, Pongify, Aftershock and so on.

In general you want to switch out as many creature cards as possible for inst./sorc. cards. Remember though to keep supportive creature cards, like Goblin Electromancer, Young Pyromancer and such:)

You could also try out the the Niv-Mizzet dragons as commanders: Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius & Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind. Otherwise this is a direct link to all -commanders:)

If your playgroup allow planeswalkers as commanders, you could also try playing with Ral Zarek as your commander.

Underneath is some cards you might want to understand the choice of or maybe swap between. They anyway explain the evolving of this deck.

I've choosen:

Charmbreaker Devils over both Archaeomancer, Izzet Chronarch and Mnemonic Wall because the devils can count for all three and have an on-going effect<3

Bident of Thassa over Curiosity because the overall effect is better and allows not just one, but all of your creatures to draw extra cards. The Bident especially works well with this flying-creature-team we got. Both the Niv-Mizzet dragons also love this artifact<3 You won't use the taunt effect a lot.

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind over Thunderbreak Regent/Dragon Egg/Fledgling Dragon because we can cheat him in (the Leige) and he just works too good with Bident of Thassa and Ral Zarek.

Cackling Counterpart over Spellheart Chimera and Stormchaser Chimera because it's a combo duplicator, is more reliable and works better with the other cards.

Suffocating Blast, Dissipate and Hinder over Riddle of Lightning, Spite of Mogis and Blast of Genius because the deck needed counters/more reliable big creature preventers and the Suff. Blast is much more reliable than the Riddle and Genius Blast.

Comet Storm over Mizzium Mortars because the Storm brings more flexibility and the overload cost of Mortars is a little too expensive.

Commander's Sphere over Izzet Cluestone because of the free sacrifice.

Izzet Signet over Izzet Keyrune because of the lower mana cost.

Pyromancer's Goggles over Pyromancer's Gauntlet due to it's better and almost always secures more dmg.

Cryptic Command over Blustersquall because it's a lot better, Bluster is budget alt.

Untapped/Basic lands over EBT lands because we need the mana straight away with this few lands.

Disintegrate over Lightning Bolt because we need the late game potential and we kinda get to exile a creature and make sure // don't get it back:3

Plea for Power over Steam Augury and Fact or Fiction because I personally like the reliability more and 3 cards for 4 mana of which there is only 1 determined is great! The extra turn potential is neither bad:)

Time Warp over Temporal Mastery, Temporal Trespass, Time Stretch and Stitch in Time because we want to be able to use it again (it's not exiled as it resolves), it's "cheap" and reliable.

Vandalblast over other alternatives because of the cost and overload potential. You can also use Shattering Spree if you prefer.

Preordain over Lunar Mystic because I needed more cantrips, it works alone and it has better synergy with the rest of the cards.

Guttersnipe over Nivix Guildmage since we already have enough copying spells and all the other cards are so good we don't want to discard HAHA. No really, with the other card picks Gutter just synergies better<3

Curse of Bloodletting over Curse of Echoes because it's so much more reliable and somehow boost both your own creatures and spells = Reliability.

Dragonshift has been swapped out with a land, simply because it don't work with Utvara Hellkite the way I first thought it would. Thank you Daedalus19876:)

Treachery is replaced with Control Magic since the mana difference is worth the free reset of the mana.

Caged Sun and Mindwrack Liege has been switched, since Caged Sun not only helps cheating in creatures, but instead mana-ramp for the use of all spells.

Rite of Replication is replacing Cackling Counterpart because it's more value even though it's more expensive and doesn't have flashback.

Cackling Counterpart was hard leaving out... The deck has about enough counter spells, therefor Hinder is out for Cackling Counterpart.

Curse of the Swine is in instead of Staff of Nin  because the deck could use another board clearer and the Staff was expensive and you weren't allowed to choose whether you wanted to draw or not. Furthermore the deck got a lot of draw power already.

Burn from Within seems better than Disintegrate and therefor replaces it.

I'll try to swap in Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir with Melek, Izzet Paragon because Teferi really brings a lot of protection to this somehow creature-poor deck and Melek not only reveals your upcoming cards to your opponent but also offers an ability which 4 other cards in the deck already supply.

Sphinx of the Final Word has replaced Elite Arcanist, but if you choose to play with Elite Arcanist here's the prevoius descreption on him: Elite Arcanist<3 + Brainstorm or Cackling Counterpart or Mystical Tutor or Prophetic Bolt or a counterspell or Sarkhan's Triumph or even Twincast/Reverberate to simply double everything up! He works almost like a weaker edition of Melek, Izzet Paragon. If your against an artifact deck Vandalblast/Smash to Smithereens is true hell. Lots of opportunities, check out the instants.
