Maybeboard

Errrr..... This is essentially a burn deck I splashed blue for some card draw and counterspells. I'm not sure how I'm going to adjust it, as it is very rough currently, so I'm hoping people will suggest cards.

Anywho... Onto cards!

Creatures

  • Young Pyromancer is just incredible. Pikers normally aren't very playable, although they can be. However, the extra value of a creature with every instant and sorcery cannot be underestimated. If you need a chump blocker, you got one. If you're trying to alpha strike, every point of damage helps.
  • Guttersnipe is also part of the 'extra value for cards'. A shock to your opponent's face is not nothing, given that it's a tenth of their life. You typically want this if you don't have a turn two pyromancer, but it is not a truly bad play ever.
  • Spellheart Chimera is not what I would like. It's a good late drop, and it's strong attacker for the last points of damage. However, it only has 3 toughness, which loses to most flyers in the format, doesn't have hexproof, and is terrible early. I'm thinking of replacing this with Keranos, God of Storms, but I have not gotten access to him thus far, so we'll see.

Spells

  • Quicken is here to make the deck 56 cards instead of 60. I'm not sure if this is worth a card, and am considering using Syncopate and one other card. However, apart from decreasing variance, it is essentially a free card for sideboarding, which I like.
  • Izzet Charm is incredibly good, mostly because it does a few different things pretty well. Faithless Looting, Spell Pierce, and Shock in one card makes the versatility very valuable.
  • Magma Jet qualifies as an extraordinary card. A shock + scry two is a powerful ability, and is just a solid card in general.
  • Lightning Strike Is nowhere near as powerful as Lightning Bolt, but three damage at instant speed is never to be underestimated.
  • Mizzium Mortars is extraordinarily good, given that it can destroy any early monsters, like a Stormbreath Dragon, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, and even early copies of Pack Rat. It's a hugely powerful card, and it doesn't lose value on later turns, when it can wipe out entire armies.
  • Turn / Burn is extraordinarily versatile, acting as an early 2 damage, midgame trick, and late game removal of literally anything without protection from red or blue or hexproof.
  • Counterflux is mainly designed to fight against Esper Control. Countering an eight mana Sphinx's Revelation makes you feel good, especially when they forget that Counterflux can't be countered and show me the Dissolve in their hand.
  • Steam Augury is hardly a perfect draw spell, but even a bad Fact or Fiction still nets me two to three cards every time. The only times they've been terrible is if there are only 4 lands, and even then 4 lands isn't nothing.

Sideboard

Big Boros typically requires+ Anger of the Gods+ Syncopate

Esper Control typically requires+ Counterflux+ Divination+ Skullcrack+ Hammer of Purphoros

Mono black typically requires+ Syncopate+ Homing Lightning

If you suggest cards, please suggest cuts. This is incredibly rough, so anything is welcome. While I would like nicer nonbasics, I'm on a tight budget. If you suggest cards, I'd like that to be something you consider.
