Lookin pretty solid. Have you tried Nivmagus Elemental in the build yet?
August 5, 2014 11:05 a.m.
I would love to help, but I am not very familiar with modern (yet). I also despise the Izzet Guild...

scrotality the problem with Nivmagus Elemental is i lose my spells to make him bigger. Yes i have snapcaster but niv doesnt even let them go to the graveyard but exiles them and he doesnt have trample to help make those counters go to work. If he had evasion of some sort i could see him being very effective in this deck to go woth delver. I think that is why no one every really uses him in modern in my opinion.
Though i am very pleased to see you are liking the deck!! :) i hope i can eventually get those cards im still needing so then this bad boy is truly modern ready
cian114 its no problem i thought you would be able to point out decks this might have problems agaisnt so i can fix up the sideboard some more. Also sometimes making what you hate leads to your strongest decks because you know how to stop it so make it able to awnser it lol
August 5, 2014 12:41 p.m.
This deck is actually great against the modern deck I'm currently building, lol. The deck seems fast, so the guildgates might become a problem at some point. you should look into getting some Steam Vents .I would suggest Scalding Tarn , but Scalding Tarn s are way too expensive.

cian114 in my description i had listed the cards i still need for the deck and Steam Vents are a must have the guild gates are only there until i can get hold of them. And i agree on the pricing problems of Scalding Tarn but i might get 1 or 2 of them through trades because i have 2 Sword of Feast and Famine and a lot of other valuable cards i might part from (play sets of Vexing Devil and Ash Zealot ) if i can get the right kind of trade if not i might just fall on Sulfur Falls

JakeHarlow those are very valid points but i dont want to lose the Spell Pierce and Spell Snare because of how good they are at destroying majority of decks as main board cards. Spell Snare deals with Dark Confidant , Snapcaster Mage , and Tarmogoyf and plenty of spells in modern while Spell Pierce is a very very strong one drop. Ill definitly cut the Think Twice for a Remand and ill probally drop an Izzet Charm and Skullcrack so i have 3 Remand and 2 Electrolyze . Does that seem good?

Great solution! Go ahead and test it. I wish we could play together; this would be a fun match with my Rat deck! :)
August 5, 2014 2:34 p.m.
Jamesfurrow says... #9
Oh your rat deck would be fun while my Young Pyromancer and Delver of Secrets Flip are just being scary monsters on the feild lol. Also i can afford to let stuff go to the graveyard because of snappy! Lol i can still play stuff lol and id def have to sideboard Pithing Needle to keep Pack Rat under control
August 5, 2014 2:39 p.m.
JakeHarlow says... #10
Yep! It would be very interesting. A good 5-5 matchup.

Oh definitly would be JakeHarlow oh how has the deck done in fnm's? And did you ever make the final desision on Mutavault and the rat safety net land?
August 5, 2014 2:51 p.m.
JakeHarlow says... #12
Yeah, I ended up running 3x Vault and 2x Yard. It works great.
So, in the only Thursday night modern FNM I've been at so far, I got 2nd. So I think that's a promising start.

Do you guys ever play test on cockatrice? I'm always looking for non-asshole people to play against on there lol

Jamesfurrow says... #14
No scrotality i dont sorry i make decks i acually use on here to get feed back because my community doesnt want to listen to a new idea and try to say its never going to work unless its this x y z net deck. So i find i get better help and feedback here and lately been starting to scare them with my izzet deck
And JakeHarlow glad to hear the deck works nicely with vualts going off. I hope it can get first in the next fmn you go to! Im not entering mine until i at least have Steam Vents lol i can wait for my other cards but until then i simply cant afford to do it

Hah I know how that goes. I prototype on here then test on cockatrice before I spend any money on physical cards. Saved me many thousands of dollars lol

scrotality, I'll Cockatrice with you. I just need to set it up.
August 5, 2014 3:16 p.m.

Lol makes sense scrotality i ussualy build around a concept with the cards i have then tweak it here before getting the a grade cards the deck needs.

Jamesfurrow - hah yea I know what you mean. That's basically why I put together The Golgarian Crotch Thrust... I had most of the cards in my binder and wanted a kitchen table only deck.
JakeHarlow - awesome! :D
August 5, 2014 3:24 p.m.
Jamesfurrow says... #19
scrotality yea kitchen table decks can be quite fun as long everyones card pool is more or less equal and one person doesnt have like every op card and a play set of em too lol
August 5, 2014 6:08 p.m.
Quick thought, you could swap Serum Visions for Preordain . It just seems like a slightly sweeter deal to look before you leap.
August 5, 2014 7:27 p.m.
Nevermind. I didn't know that Preordain wasn't legal in modern.

NimRod_25 no worries man but wat you think of the deck so far?
August 5, 2014 7:39 p.m.
It looks good so far. I also tried Delver of Secrets Flip in my deck over the weekend but cut him out to maximize my non-creature spells and Guttersnipe 's ability. How are you finding your mana-flow with 20 lands. I kept getting starved running 21.
August 5, 2014 8:25 p.m.
Jamesfurrow says... #24
NimRod_25 ibeen considering cutting 2 lands acually because my curve is so low and im finding i been getting flooded now and then by lands but i also have plenty of scry to keep them moving so it doesnt hurt me so bad. And if you go delver you have to commit to him or Guttersnipe they dont really work togeather lol but pyromaner works with both nicely
August 5, 2014 9:33 p.m.
I know you probably want to keep your curve low, and I don't know exactly how fast your deck is, but your counterspells like Mana Leak become much less effective as the game goes on. I would replace it with Dissolve , which is one more mana but works well all game. You said you run Delver of Secrets Flip instead of Guttersnipe , but why not run them both? Snapcaster Mage only gets you one spell back, while Guttersnipe is giving you free Shock every spell you cast, so I would suggest replacing Snapcaster Mage with Guttersnipe . If your plan is to win through burn damage, Guttersnipe would serve you much better.
JakeHarlow says... #1
First. Don't cut Mana Leak ! It's incredibly good. Honestly, I'd just cut Think Twice (3 Electrolyze is good in my opinion), and then move Spell Snare and Spell Pierce to the SB. They are both awesome and relevant in particular matchups, but I deem Remand to be stronger in general applications. Electrickery and Pillar of Flame can be cut for these to go into the SB.
Also, for fast sweeping in Modern, I like Pyroclasm better than Electrickery .
I think Gelectrode is very different from Blistercoil Weird . He allows you to repeatedly power up your burns and perform excellent spot removal on small threats. He provides 2 extra damage for Electrolyze ! He makes countermagic sting. He is utterly amazing if you want a versatile control creature that can also apply damage to the opponent. Blistercoil Weird is amazing, but not nearly as versatile as Gelectrode .
