Let's face it, nobody really cares about what's in an Izzet deck, you just want the name to be punny.
BUT, for those of you that do care, I will talk about deck-tech and cards and other useless things. I need to cut out 1 card and move one to the sideboard but I can't make up my mind, so if anyone has suggestions just comment and I'll let you know what I think on it.
Mainboard:
Cyclonic Rift Because it's just SO good.
Lightning Strike because three damage at instant speed isn't half bad. I used to run
Frostburn Weird
here but with the popularity of Soldier of the Pantheon I just kept feeling like he was pretty useless, so I'm trying it without him.
Anger of the Gods is really one of the feature cards of the deck. I only run 3 mainboard because it's lack of relevance in control matchups, but the moment I see someone drop a creature on turn 2 or before, I know what I'm siding in next game. This card is really really good. It even made the sideboard of a pro legacy deck from what I've heard.
Mizzium Mortars is good because early in the game it kills anything. Late in the game it kills everything.
Curse of the Swine I used to just run this in the sideboard, but the deck just functions better with it mainboard, as it gives me a variety of ways to kill something. So it makes big, tramply, smashy threats into pigs. Then Anger of the Gods makes them into bacon.
Izzet Charm because it does lots of stuff. This suggestion brought to you by @VampireArmy
Essence Scatter because creatures are the number one way of killing your opponent in Magic the Gathering. So we don't want them having those, now do we?
Steam Augury Some people don't think their opponents should ever make choices, but I say THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY AND THEY CAN MAKE ALL THE CHOICES THEY WANT! I have really fallen in love with this card as of late, especially in some decks that run Spellheart Chimera as a win con. Regardless, it digs me 5 deep into my deck at instant speed and reasonable manna. The only reason Divination makes an appearance is because most keepable hands have 3 manna in them, and it's nice to be able to dig for my fourth instead of wait.
Opportunity helps me keep up with Sphinx's Revelation in a control matchup. While it's not nearly as good, it is 4 cards for one at instant speed, and that's pretty darn good.
Turn / Burn "Hey bro, nice indestructible Thassa, God of the Sea, too bad weirds aren't indestructible too!" It kills ANYTHING, and it's utility in a bag. Can basically be a 3 manna fog if you really can't afford to take a Monstrous Polukranos, World Eater to the face for a turn.
AEtherling If you need it explained why he's in here you shouldn't be playing Magic.
Stormbreath Dragon He's big, he flys, he gets bigger.
Jace, Memory Adept I originally wanted this to be another Jace, Architect of Thought, but after playing with Memory Adept against certain decks it would just take too long to kill them because they gain too much life, so I can just mill them out. One time I -7ed him, drew the other one in the deck and played it to mill him for 10. That was pretty much game. And he gets me cards! I like cards!
Jace, Architect of Thought because he's basically the best planeswalker in standard.
Ral Zarek He nets me extra manna every turn, taps blockers, shoots stuff, and his -7 wins games... And he's a planeswalker in my colors... Soooo I shamelessly defend him when people tell me he sucks.
Sideboard:
Demolish
is a card I decided to try out because I kept just losing to Whip of Erebos because I can deal with them once but not twice, and it is more versatile than Vandalblast because taking out someone's Mutavault or Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx can be really important. For a long time I didn't run any artifact destruction in the deck, then realized "I'm in red... What is wrong with me?"
Counterflux comes in in the control matchups obviously, and it is the most important card I can get out of the board. U/W/x control probably has more counterspells than me in hand, and being able to automatically win the counter-war just makes my day a lot better.
Pithing Needle and Ratchet Bomb for obvious reasons.
Tell me what you think guys! I've spent a lot of time (and unfortunately money) on this deck and I would love to hear anybody's opinion (good or bad). I'm not so sure what I would have the mainboard as if I took it to a tournament, this is just to give you guys the gist of the deck, so some advice on that would be appreciated. I realize adding a 3rd color would be good for it, but ain't nobody got the money fo dat land. It doesn't gain life, which makes me sad, but I can usually stabilize the board enough to not need to.
