Sorcery (1)

This deck's theme's the Izzet guild. It was really fun to play, and play against - according to some of my co-players - since it features so many different spells, you'll always be doing something. This deck also is a good opportunity to play some of the spells you hardly ever play (either because of their casting cost, or because they don't fit elsewhere).

Once you can hit off one (two, because Melek, Izzet Paragon copies it) of the 'heavy' spells, particularly Time Stretch, Blatant Thievery or Insurrection or the very destructive Inferno you are virtually bound to win. This deck only has a few cards with an in the casting cost (such as Devil's Play): those cards are primarily meant as wipes or finishers. BTW: Strionic Resonator makes matters much worse :) .

Additional sorceries that allow you to copy cards ( Fork and such) have not been included. I've experienced that they slow you down: you need to have the mana, and it makes no sense to play them with Melek's abilities without casting another spell first. Moreover, the chances of you having enough free mana in your upkeep to cast a big instant spell and then copying it on the stack with a free casted Fork (while awesome) are pretty slim.

While the win condition relies on the commander and his ability to play (and copy) spells, the deck can win without its commander. It has mana sources and supporting cards like Curious Homunculus   and Goblin Electromancer that ensure you cast cast spells for less, but Pyromancer's Goggles is also always fun to use.

Furthermore, though this deck does not boast many creatures (you are meant to win by playing spells), the ones included strive for synergy with each other, the spells you play and Melek. Many of the supporting creatures have an ability that triggers when a spell is played such as Talrand, Sky Summoner, Guttersnipe, Docent of Perfection   and Young Pyromancer: the tokes are excellent blockers, but on one occasion I've managed to create so many tokens that I actually won through attacking with them (though that is a rare exception). A number of cards mimic Melek's ability to make the deck less dependent on him, such as: Mirari, Echo Mage , Galvanoth , and Uyo, Silent Prophet . If you want more there's Dualcaster Mage and Nivix Guildmage in the sideboard.

Noteworthy other cards are those that allow you to stack your deck such as Portent , Serum Visions, Brainstorm, Jace's Sanctum, Eyes of the Watcher needless to say, these all have great synergy with Melek. Melek, Izzet Paragon + Scroll Rack or Melek, Izzet Paragon + Sensei's Divining Top are even a bit sick, so don't be too disappointed when people try to disrupt your play and destroy those artifacts :) .

Suggestions

Updates Add

I've been experimenting with Curious Homunculus  Flip instead of Mana Matrix: because the homunulus can hit both sorcery and instant spells (and I have a lot of sorceries) .

Also, the Docent of Perfection  Flip, seemed a nice add, since he creates tokens, and (when transformed) buffs Melek, so the Spellheart Chimera (that I really liked, it won me the game once, but did not function well in multiplayer) had to go

Strionic Resonator: speaks pretty much for itself, I think

Removed Desolate Lighthouse for more landfiltering through Evolving Wilds

What was most difficult was the removal of Hypersonic Dragon: the fact that it only is 4/4 made it too weak for decent defence, or able to survive the blasts I create. Darksteel Plate protects Melek.
