"Izzet" really a combo, or just good synergy?

i dont't understand how Trait Doctoring fits? maybe give me an example scenario? also Fluxcharger and Nivix Cyclops should do well here.....

feel free to look into my Izzet League Entry: Izzet Razing for ideas.

Simple, It's not their for It's ability, but to trigger the creature abilities with a low cost cipher.

Turn 1: Island, Nivmagus Elemental - starts as a 1/2turn 2:Island, cast two Trait Doctoring s precombat, Cypher both. Swing in for 1. If they don't block, you now have a 5/6 turn 2 That gets bigger quite easily and triggers your Young Pyromancer s/ Guttersnipe s.

yeah but what if someone blocks Nivmagus Elemental ? I guess no one would have big creatures that early and you could Shock a Fog Bank or something, but if they have a reliable blocker or a Murder or something how well does this work?

Finally someone has made a deck where Trait Doctoring is helpful. You get a +1 for making it happen.

Izzet league ftw

@demongod, That's the main problem I have right now for the deck. The main way to get around it is simply have a faster curve, to keep them from catching up enough to safely block. If they do send out Fog Bank or just chump block, I'm thinking more burn could answer that. Help on this matter is appreciated.

Drop Izzet Keyrune , terrible card. You also NEED creature protection or a murder destroys your entire game plan, 4x Mizzium Skin is a must. Artful Dodge is 10x better than Teleportal because of the flashback, swap those. Hands of Binding is better than Trait Doctoring because the ability can actually be useful, if they have more than 1 creature out but don't block you can tap one through your next turn. It gives you more options than just exile fodder.

I agree with big guns upstairs @ Saljen

I continue to wait for a deck that makes use of Trait Doctoring for more than just cheap cipher fodder. It's not "Bad" but it's not using the card for it's text ... at all.

Actually.... I disagree about Teleportal vs Artful Dodge .

Artful Dodge is almost always better - UNLESS you plan on hitting with an army of 1/1's that double strength into 2/2's.

Mr CreepyDentures is hoping to smash face with all of the tokens that Young Pyromancer makes. I don't know how well that will work for him, but in the case that you just want to hit with ALOT of creatures instead of one creature twice then Teleportal is clearly a better choice.

That's about right Zacoly. Only other thing is that I want to use this deck post rotation

consider Hidden Strings as you can use it to untap your lands and play another 2 trait doctorings or any other two drop spell, in an ideal hand you could have t1 island- Nivmagus Elemental t2-island- Hidden Strings -Hidden Strings -Hidden Strings -Trait Doctoring -Trait Doctoring making an 11/12 by the end of turn 2draw an Artful Dodge on t3 and have a 21/22 then t4 flash back and boom

(unlikely but just an example)
also consider this, Illusionist's Bracers doubles Nivmagus Elemental 's ability

Wild Guess needs to go, that card sucks balls. Maybe use Inaction Injunction , it would replace itself and also prevent a creature from blocking. Think Twice could be good too

Cypher is part of the spells effect so unfortunately if it doesn't resolve you can't cypher it.

August 21, 2013 2:59 p.m.

@Frimbleglim, You let the first resolve. you exile the cypher copies.

I would advise using hidden strings and hands of binding in the deck. Judge's Familiar is good for protection and evasion on your cipher spells. I tend to run Blistercoil Weird and Armed with my deck for the chance of 18 damage turn 2 or a massive amount of some kind. There are a few ways of making the most of cipher spells and the ones are the most common. If you want a few ideas, here is a similar deck idea I made.

This combo doesn't work. If you exile trait doctoring to cipher it then you won't be putting counters on nivmagus elemental, and if you exile it for counters you can't cipher it.

August 23, 2013 2:42 p.m.

You don't exile the initial spell...

Derp. I get it now. Ignore me, I'm sleep deprived.

This deck looks really good. Mine is really similar except I don't have any spells just for triggering abilities; they all have some use. So I feel like yours can pump out more tokens or buff Nivmagus Elemental faster, but mine has better survivability for my creatures with spells like Dispel to counter removal. I also went with Nivix Cyclops so my goal is not to hit with a bunch of unblockable tokens using Teleportal , but to hit with a few big creatures which I protect while triggering their abilities. Check mine out: Izzet Spell Fiends.

I was wrong. This deck is amazing and Nivix Cyclops is useless. My deck is a lot more similar to this now except for a few spells. I just got done beating ass with it. Check it out and compare spell choices: Izzet Spell Fiends.

Hands of Binding > Trait Doctoring helps tap down creatures your opponent controls allowing your cipher creatures to attack without worry.

i always thought trait doctoring would get played in this way. it just isnt good enough by itself.
but i think its very cool how you did this, to be honest, you beat me to this deck idea :)
