@primti17 - Thanks! I like it, but I'm not sure about swapping out those SB cards. It's getting real tight now, so I'll have to be sure it's worth it.

Hi,First of all: Where are all the comments that have been here yesterday? o,O

Now to the point:I had almost the same deck and Testet it yesterday in FNM:

Creatures:

Spells:

Land:

Just to speak clearly: I go wrecked! The meta at my LGS was full of control.

My matches:

0-2 vs. B/W Control:4 Silkwrap and 4 Stasis Snare on my first 8 Creatures. I got him down to 8 but he had the Card advantage with some Hand Disruption. In the second game i countered his Secure the Wastes 2 times and hit him for 16 with my Manland+Titan's&Fury but he could Drop Gideon 3 Times and had lots of Lifelink.

0-2 vs. U/W/B Enchantment Control:Played Demonic Pact, and i had no answer. Disruped my Hand and destroyed my creatures.

0-2 vs U/R Googles ControlJace, Googles and Thing in the Ice. Had lots of burn against my creatures, and finished of with copied Firery Temper. That was the best Matchup for me. Had him down to 3, 2 times.

The last game i came agains my friend and it was late, so wie decided to shake hands.

My thoughts:

The Deck has an Exlosive Start. In almost every game i had my oponents down to 10 in Round 4, but then i got down. Ether my hand was empty or i had no creatures left. The big problem is the card draw.Fevered Visions is great, same as Jori En. Got pure Value from both. Also the Manland helped me a lot, same did Infectious Bloolust. I think in a Meta with Lots of Control you need some mid to lategame Strategy for this Deck. I'm thinking of Chandra, Flamecaller or getting some more Card advantage with Tormenting Voice and Fiery Temper.

@Jupdi - you can find all the old comments in the latest update - I decided to clean them up as there were so many.

Sounds like your games came to a similar conclusion as my game versus Mardu last night. Heavy kill and planeswalker presence is really oppressive.

So it looks like perhaps the way forward could be to increase the land count to 22/23, and include more mid-later game cards and draw, although in this deck I'm thinking just plain draw isn't what's needed, they need to also play an aggressive role. I know someone recommended Avaricious Dragon (who does actually play nice with Fevered Visions), so maybe that would be an option. Also, Zada, Hedron Grinder can both produce insane draw and crazy damage, so that's a consideration.

I found Infectious Bloodlust helpful, but didn't feel I needed 4, and with the amount of exile I rarely searched for a new one, so I've gone down to 2.

Ok, trying out some new ideas: Upped Land count to 22 and replaced two Wandering Fumaroles with Basic Land because the ETB tapped-lands have been messing me up a bit, and have taken out two of the draw cantrips for 2 Avaricious Dragon, in the hopes that I have more late game presence and draw.

I've been having great success with my version. I think your deck plays a lot more like a midrange deck, even curving out into a 4 drop! I feel like blue red prowess is really an aggro deck that wants every card to have an immediate impact. Fevered Visions is a fun card, but I feel like it is really not optimal in this deck. It comes down too late and draws us the same amount of cards as our opponent. I feel like there are more successful midrange decks out there than this one, so it really only thrives as an aggro/combo deck. Just my 2 cents.

Ok, new version is live.

I think I may have got carried away with the changes last week, and now the deck more closely resembles its original version, which was already strong.

  • I've foregone the 4-drop in favour of bringing back Exquisite Firecraft. The deck needed a finisher, and this does the job better than a slow, vulnerable creature.

  • I've gone to a 3-of in Fiery Temper, Expedite and Slip Through Space to fit in 3 Rush of Adrenaline. Rush may not be the best spell, but I felt I'd gone too low on buff spells. This fits the deck's re-focus on pure aggression.

  • Infectious Bloodlust is out. I love the card, and if I could fit it in I would, but ultimately it's a little clunky, I rarely get the search due to all the exile around, it is hard to cast off of Abbot of Keral Keep, and doesn't activate TITI. It gets replaced by additional 3-drop draw spells (Jori En, Ruin Diver and Fevered Visions). They help make the deck run smoothly and I get to see them every game now usually, particularly helpful in the later stages of a game and against control.

  • The sideboard has also been tweaked.

What do you think of Pyre Hound?

Hidden_Blade says... #9

@zmickelson - too high on curve I think. If I include a four drop it would probably either be Avaricious Dragon for draw, good damage and evasion, or Zada, Hedron Grinder for the combo potential. As it is at the moment I'm trying to go with a low curve with high draw power. If that doesn't work I might try out one of the aforementioned 4-drops

So I have still been testing this deck a bit and here are some more things I've found, perhaps not specific for your new vision but just the archetype in general:

I think I like Disperse better than Clutch of Currents for the SB because of it's versatility and instant speed, since it can hit a Westvale Abbey  Flip before it gets an attack in.

I do like the additional creatures in this version. Sometimes I felt like it was a bit creature light. Also, I tend to like Thing in the Ice  Flip better than Elusive Spellfist because I feel like it is more powerful in the current meta, and it is pretty much a must answer which saves some of the other creatures.

Kozilek's Return is just better than Radiant Flames here, but I understand if you don't use it for budget reasons.

Lastly, I think some main board Dispels couldn't hurt. I have been playing with 2 and rarely do I ever not get an opportunity to use them, whether it is to counter an Ultimate Price or a Collected Company, or even Fiery Temper.

Also, I forgot to mention Twin Bolt is something I have been trying out, and it seems really good with all the human decks running around. It also functions as additional direct burn which can come in handy.

Perhaps add in some Send to Sleeps. Like you mentioned about the Exquisite firecraft (s), you are going to always land on the spell mastery. Otherwise dude, it's a badass deck! Similar to my Thing in the ice build!

I really like your Chandra choice, but with the number of 2+CMC Sorcery and then counter spells, do you really see it flip often? I would think you would be better off using cheap instants for it. I know the homunculus reduces by 1, but I feel you have a lot of setup to go through before you get your engine moving. Do you run into that?

You're also missing some of the best creatures in Izzet right now, like Stormchaser Mage and Elusive Spellfist. If you are looking to cast enough spells to flip Chandra, then you can make them non-creature to pump those prowess guys with some evasion, and do a LOT more damage in that one turn. I haven't had a chance to get to FNM (father of 3 and extremely busy life), but I've done very well with my deck in a relatively competitive game night I host every Monday. I have a chance at T4 win, but it's pretty consistently lethal T5-T7. Here's what I'm running with:

Yeah this deck started as an Izzet aggro/ rush/ burn with loads of cantrips It was very successful until my meta changed to heavy control and I could no longer compete. Now I just use this page to make a few changes to the evolving midrange/ control version you see before you (which incidentally ruins control 90% of the time).

You are right though, Chandra is hard to flip in this version. I should probably remove her, but I like her too much. Eyeing the new chandra for kaladesh though. Card looks mental.

Also, I do have Stormchaser mages, so not sure what you mean in your second paragraph. And as I said, this is no longer aggro really, so Elusive Spellfist is out 'cause it was one too many aggressive creatures without enough defensive capabilities. Stormchaser is more versatile. It's more of a control/ burn deck now.

One thing, I'd recommend Expedite for your deck. I used it before and another cantrip is never a bad thing in that deck.
