This deck is my baby, but it's been underperforming a bit and needs some TLC in order to make it really shine. Here's my attempt to bring my Enigma deck kicking and screaming into XLN standard.
Gameplan:
I agressively cycle using Censor, Crash Through, and Opt to fill up my graveyard and bring out a Drake or Cryptic ASAP. Use Shock or Lightning Strike to remove small creatures in early game or do damage straight to the face. Riddleform can help with filtering through the deck, and can also deal 3 damage fairly consistently each turn. Wildfire Eternal forces opponents to make hard choices about whether to block or not, and can often allow me to cast a free spell. The aim of the game is to hit as hard as possible before opponents have a chance to set up their plays.
Rough sideboard plan:
Control: -4 Crash Through, + 4 Negate
Ramp/ bigstuff: - 4 Shock, -3 Chart a Course: +2 Abrade, +2 Essence Scatter, +3 Winds of Rebuke
Token/lifegain: - 2 Wildfire Eternal, -2 Shock: + 2 Rampaging Ferocidon, +2 Magma Spray
Combo: -4 Crash Though, -4 Shock :+2 Abrade, +2 Essence Scatter, +4 Negate
Thoughts:
Primal Amulet
vs Vance's Blasting Cannons
? : I really like both of this cards, but I think dropping a Primal Amulet in place of a Vance's Blasting Cannons serves the deck a bit better by reducing the cost of my spells and allowing me to copy a spell with a new target each turn. However, my spells have a pretty low cost to start with tbh, and Cannons has some pretty good upsides as well. It effectively increases my hand size by one before it flips, and when it flips (which shouldn't take too long at all) it gives me a repeatable burn spell that can't be countered. Very useful in an aggro deck.
Crash Through vs Hieroglyphic Illumination? Crash Through is fun. It basically acts as a cycling spell in early game and lets me get damage through in late game, because you know I don't want my 6/5 Cryptic Serpent getting chumpblocked by some shitty little vampire tokens. Plus it's in red, so I can use it if I get mana screwed for Islands in early game. But Illumination is a better card for card draw overall, and around late game my hand gets very low.
How many Essence Scatter?
Thanks guys
