That's fair. Syncopate is good early game and for X spells. I might take it out for the negate. I would have architect of thought but I don't want to spend money on him at this point. Thanks for the pointers!

since ravnica is going out of rotation soon, are you taking Niv-Mizzet out, or would you consider adding Curiosity ? I saw it working with Niv-Mizzet and was very impressed.

I like this. How consistent is it versus the current meta?+1

Thanks! For the most part pretty good. It has trouble with quick aggro decks like dome of the mono-red and nays hex proof decks floating around. Other than that not bad! And thank you!

I feel like this was an unintentional pun.
Izzet still good?
Is it still good?
See what I mean?

I feel like you should change the creature board a lot. Have you tried Spellheart Chimera , and Jeskai Elder ?
September 13, 2014 1:15 p.m.
Pterozacktyl says... #11
Yeah, I get that. I need creatures which can survive or give me some extra bonuses. I used to use Spellheart Chimera but it died relatively easily, even if I was able to dissolve a spell or something. Jeskai Elder is good but I would rather have the room for more burn spells and have a couple larger creatures with pseudo-evasion or something to help. I chose the creatures I did because of their secondary benefits, like Chasm Skulker 's ability to give me more creatures. But none of the creatures in the new sets really fill up AEtherling 's spot. Clever Impersonator will be super useful since it can copy planeswalkers and such providing me more win-cons. I need to playtest with the new set to see what ends up being useful...

yeah, its going to be hard without Guttersnipe and Goblin Electromancer :) But I still suggest that you remove Stormbreath Dragon and maybe Keranos, God of Storms

Thanks for the feedback! I switched up a bit of what was there. I want to try out Pearl Lake Ancient .

They should have given Pearl Lake Ancient Islandwalk, I fear is just going to be chump blocked for days.
Deck looks fun, I don't play standard so I'm not sure if this is an issue, but it doesn't look like you have an efficient way (outside of counter spells) of dealing with Courser of Kruphix ...
RIP Mizzium Mortars

Him.... Good point. Time to main board Polymorphist's Jest to aide my burn sells or Anger of the Gods . And seriously RIP mizzium mortars. So good. So sad.

I do need to add some fetchlands... They're just sooooo expensive. But I will add them when I can! And thanks!

With running those x colorless cards i would say run Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx simply because you could drop a huge floating mana devotion pool and hit them for a crap ton of damage.

Pterozacktyl says... #19
I would play nykthos but I don't have any permanents to make it useful. A lot of times I may only have two nonland permanents on the field since I rely instead on instants and sorcerers.

To be honest Pearl Lake Ancient shouldn't be in the deck. I'd automatically replace it with Stormtide Leviathan it's 1 more mana for a Island Walking 8/8 that makes everything Islands and keeps creatures without flying or island walk from attacking. If you want a big ass fish as a finisher in the deck you might as well just put the Leviathan in.

I like this deck. Seems pretty fun!
As a suggestion,, you could take out a dissolve and a lightning strike for a Roast in case you deal with something big. Or maybeRending Volley in the event you deal with Ojutai, or other white or blue creatures?

Excellent suggestions. Siege rhino and ojutai suck!

I haven't seen anything from this deck in awhile. How have you been doing with it recently?
Are you excited for the Chandra in the Magic Origins? She seems like she'll be really good, though I've been playing Modern a lot lately so I might be overestimating her ability in Standard since Modern has a billion decks running around and Standard has like 4.

What's really heart breaking about the planeswalkers though, is that Ugin can wipe them out whenever they are flipped out by just a minus zero. :(

This deck does okay. I have the hardest time with life gain and big creatures. I usually have enough removal for aggro decks but stuff like Xenagos and dromoka remain annoying. Ugin can wipe them out with a minus 0? The loyalty doesn't count?

Steam Augury is a decent card but for four mana in a controll deck like this you want to be using Jace, Architect of Thought . Much much better card. also i would suggest getting Syncopate and Dissipate . Hope the deck works out
