Combine that Avaricious Dragon with Geralf's Masterpiece and you have a wicked combo.

Yeah, I dropped the dragon because it ended up causing more harm than good. If I could assure he would stay on the board through the game, I would be ok with it... but having to drop my hand and then immediately lose him was just too painful.

Tears of Valakut could be a sideboard, but it would be a dead card if my opponent had no flying. I already have Welcome to the Fold that will allow me to steal that Avacyn for only 2 more mana, and can also use Lightning Axe to kill him as well as most other creatures. I'm not sure I need another sideboard specifically for Avacyn, but it's definitely a perfect card for that.

I'm thinking I may use Elusive Spellfist in place of Sin Prodder. I think I could get more out of him, and that would drop CMC even more. Thoughts?

I really like the deck, +1 from me.

Maybe you could consider Jori En, Ruin Diver and Tormenting Voice for some more card draw.

Thanks notatree!

I had Jori En, Ruin Diver in the first iteration of this deck, but thought it was overkill with him, the dragon AND Fevered Visions. Now that I've removed the dragon, I may have to think about putting him back in. I'm not a fan of it being legendary though.

Do you have a suggestion of what I should drop for Tormenting Voice? I really like the card, but with the discard, I have a hard time putting it in here. I really need to keep all of my spells, and I have so few creatures, that I hate to discard anything. I have 8 madness cards, but I won't always have madness in my hand when I have Tormenting Voice. Maybe I'm wrong though. I really do need to try it out.

Maybe I'm just wrong, I was thinking about swapping two Just the Winds for two Tormenting Voices, but just the wind is amazing at dealing with Ormendahl, Profane Prince  Flip and good at removing blockers so that's probably a bad idea. Dropping one might be possible but a single voice won't make a big difference.

Had a chance to pilot this against a good Bant Company deck, and forgot I had left in the Sin Prodder instead of the Elusive Spellfist. I still almost won it though with an eh starting hand and he had an awesome starting hand. I am REALLY excited about this deck and think I'll go ahead and get the cards to build this and take it to an FNM. I think I want something I can use to sideboard for the Fevered Visions though, because he was actually happy when I dropped that.

I swapped out the Titan's Strength for Rush of Adrenaline. It drops the 22 damage max to 20, but adds trample. That's important in case they use something like secure the wastes to add blockers after you bounce.

I am thinking about trying out Harness the Storm and dropping the Just the Wind and Fiery Temper and adding in Disperse and Fiery Impulse. I don't like that I can't hit an opponent with my Fiery Temper, but the 3CMC is a hard sell with Harness the Storm. This is just to try and get more casting happening for a Thing in the Ice  Flip flip and to keep the board clear.

I'm also thinking I may want to try either Anticipate or Pieces of the Puzzle to get to my important cards faster. I'm not sure what I should drop to make room though.

Thoughts?

Well using the 8 slots alone from dropping Temper and Wind could be:

+3 Anticipate (Get that land if you're short or need a color, or grab just whatever piece is missing and save yourself 3 turns).

+1 Pieces of the Puzzle (Since it goes through essentially 6 cards, you'll probably only need to do it the once, but I'd only have 2, tops.)

+2 Harness the Storm (You only get benefit from one anyway and you have to have fuel in the graveyard so it's ok to have to draw for one)

+2 Disperse (Mainboard this over Fiery Impulse since flipping TitI will take care of all the creatures and this can take care of anything else)

Sideboard the Fiery Impulse if you are playing someone with targets that it can get rid of early before you are set up. Or, since you already have Displacement Wave, perhaps you don't even need Disperse and could just go with 4x Fiery Impulse. Not sure on that one. Maybe you could be more aggressive and put back in Titan's Strength to those slots since they aren't dead draws that work pretty well with your Prowess and for two mana you can do Strength and Adrenaline for +5/+2 and Trample with Scry.

Also for card draw and another creature, what about Jori En, Ruin Diver? You have plenty of reasons to cast 2 spells and it'll help your own draw without giving the advantage back to your opponent like Visions does. Perhaps run 2 of those instead of the Disperse? Good sideboard, anyway.

I had Jori En, Ruin Diver in this deck originally, but there were lots of turns I didn't cast 2 spells, though that was in an earlier version of this, so I may have to try him again.

Ordered the cards I need to finish this so it's not proxied. I am hoping to receive them in time to take this to FNM this week. If not, I'll be taking it next week. I'm going to see how it goes as-is, and then decide if I'm going to try Harness the Storm or Jori En, Ruin Diver.

Wasn't able to go to FNM :(

I have been playing it against some of my other decks (specifically my G/W +1 Counter Crazy deck) and it's doing really well. Hoping to make it to FNM next week.

I had a chance to play this deck more against some competitive standard decks, and have found it does REALLY well when it works, but is turning out more inconsistent than I originally thought. I made a number of changes, and playtests have shown much more consistency, and I believe it to be a much better deck than before. I decided to forego the control except for the Clash of Wills and add in Harness the Storm, Anticipate and Slip Through Space. Harness is immensely powerful with all the cheap spells, and allows me to flip Thing in the Ice  Flip WAY more often. Anticipate helps find the necessary cards, and with Harness the Storm can end up letting me search through a LOT.

Hey John, I just ran some playtests on here with those changes and both times out of 5 rounds that I got the turn 5 lethal with a single hit were due to Anticipate digging for the right pieces on turns 3 and 4 after playing TitI on turn 2.

It took 8 turns for another run but that did lethal with the Spellfist instead, I didn't pull a creature until turn 5.

The other two had setups that took too long (10+), but the Harness the Storm allowed me to flip two unblockable TitI's at the same time. Interestingly enough in all five tests I never drew the Stormchaser Mage.

I think at one point you had Sin Prodder in this deck, right? I think with Harness the Storm you may want to consider a pair of them in the sideboard again, since they will certainly have you bury your cheap spells. It's win win because the 1-3 damage they take for burying the card helps you with damage and Storm fuel, and if they let you keep it then you've just got two cards at your upkeep. This will speed up your card draw even more and when you do hit on a draw you can pretty easily double up on Rush of Adrenaline or Slip Through Space, or even Anticipate with Harness the Storm to dig even faster.

Either that, or a couple of Abbot of Keral Keep for some slight ramp, and then another great target for Slip and Fury with his Prowess. You could always reveal land and play it to accelerate, I would probably just wait to play them until turn 5 so that no matter what the card that gets revealed you will be able to play it. I think he might finally be worth testing out, and he's down to about $2.50 so a pair of them isn't ridiculous if you did pick them up.

The issue I've had with Sin Prodder in here is that everything is so cheap that I'll never get a draw out of it, and if I'm unlucky, they'll drop something I'll need to be able to win. With only so many creatures in here, if they drop a creature, that could be a huge hit to the flow.

In my 4 playtests I've done so far, I had a turn 6 flipping 2 things for 27 damage, a turn 5 win with a spellfist and a mage, a turn 8 lethal with harness and a bunch of spells on 2 spellfists and a turn 9 lethal with a thing flipping as a finisher.

A lot of things have to go right for this deck I feel, but it's definitely better like this than it was. I'm still researching creature possibilities and am having a hard time picking something I like. Abbot of Keral Keep is definitely a top contender right now, but I'll need to do more testing before I decide I think.

Had a chance to play 4 sets, and I went 3-1.

2-0 against a mono-white Odric deck. Has a lot of interesting interactions, but my deck was too fast.

2-0 against a Selesnya token deck. I was able to flip a Thing T5 the first game and T6 the second game, both times for lethal.

2-0 against a Black Eldrazi deck. The first game was pretty even, but I was a little faster. The second game he had me easily, but I had out a Harness the Storm and was able to flip my Thing on his turn casting two 1 cost spells from hand and having the same cards in the graveyard and then drew an uncaged fury on my turn to do 16 damage for the win.

0-3 against a Golgari elves deck. This is just a bad matchup for my deck. He was able to drop too many elves and use shaman of the pack and foul-tongue shriek to do lots of direct damage. I lost the first game for sure, and the second game I played a displacement wave at the wrong time which lost me that game. I had him down to 1 and didn't draw anything to finish him that turn. If I had kept a displacement wave instead of casting it early, that would have been my game no problem. Third game I had some misplays again (I was tired), but I don't think it mattered as I was mana flooded. Started with 4 mana in hand and didn't draw anything else 5 out of the 6 turns, and even used an anticipate which only had mana! Very frustrating.

I decided to add Boiling Earth in the sideboard. With harness the storm, I can possibly cast a couple of them to gain me prowess and hurt all opponent's creatures. Against agro decks, that should be pretty powerful, as 2 damage will be enough to kill a lot of early plays, and 1 damage would be enough to kill lots of tokens and/or elves.

Great Deck, alternative take on things.

Just an idea from left field but if you added a 3rd colour to your mana base maybe:7 Mountain7 Island4 Prairie Stream4 Needle Spires

It doesn't slow your mana base really and gives you access to sideboard cards such as Declaration in Stone or Radiant Flames , even at full power Radiant wont kill your Things or Mages and can be good against WW/Bant/Tokens. Declaration seems a decent answer to things like RAMP, getting rid of world breakers and atarkas and giving you the few extra turns you need to win.

Just a random thought.

I'm glad I got to be the upset that night :)

You were feeling really confident too, and I had you in a pretty bad position every time. Against me, the Wave almost helps but doesn't really slow me down since I can almost always replay everything. Boiling Earth would have been a different story. I think it's a solid option that works in a lot of situations, and Harness turns it into a mini Languish of sorts, especially against tokens or weenies. Those games were over before Harness was even a thing, or thing was even a thing. I was a little worried in game two when you were finally able to flip, but I knew that if I lived you were a goner and you were 2 damage short ;)

Fun matchup since they both can win really fast by bursting a ton of damage, but definitely more favorable towards the elves.

I tried the third color of mana to give me access to 3 colors for Radiant Flames and Declaration in Stone, and it lost some consistency. I also forgot that my Elusive Spellfist doesn't gain toughness, so casting a Radiant Flames for 3 will kill him.

I then dropped the amount of mana some since practically everything in the deck is 2CMC, and added the Radiant Flames to mainboard. I've had a much better showing for quick Thing flips and also had one game completely saved by Radiant Flames. This deck feels even stronger now than before.

My wife has a mono-white Odric deck that she's been working on. She improved it some since our last battle and took me down 3-0 with my previous version of this deck, but going to what I have right now on here I was able to win 2-1. She is able to hit lethal turn 5 pretty easily with all the Odric triggers in her deck.

I expect to sideboard the Thing in the Ice  Flip for Eldritch Moon, seeing as the number of horrors is crazy. I think I'll be using Niblis of Frost in here for sure.

July 16, 2016 2:46 p.m.

Harbynger says... #24

I decided to go with Mercurial Geists instead of the Niblis of Frost to start out. Since I have some flying or unblockable on everything, I'm not overly worried about tapping their blockers, and I usually don't cast spells on my opponents turns. If this doesn't work out though, I may swap those two. I added in Docent of Perfection  Flip thinking the spellfist was a wizard along with the stormchaser... but I was wrong. It could still work, but won't flip as quick as I had hoped, and won't buff as many creatures. I added in 1 Mirrorwing Dragon as a bomb as well. This will let me hit him with something like Uncaged Fury and then all my creatures are getting buffed, plus prowess in most cases!

Not sure if this has already been suggested, but it appears that Kozilek's Return would do the same thing as Radiant Flames except at instant speed since you are only playing U/R. That's just my two cents.
