Jace, the Esper Sculptor

Modern Control WUB (Esper)

pF.AngryDragon

Jace is unbanned. I know, you know, everyone knows and everyone is excited. The only question that is lingering like a soul (or 4) is which deck does Jace truly want to be in... where does he belong? I have heard this question: "Is Jace even good in Modern?" This is a question i disregard because I believe it demonstrates a lack of understand of Jace's power, if used effectively and efficiently and it also implies a lack of experience with the powerhouse.

Of course I didnt come to tapped out to ask a question, but rather answer it, and i am answering it with this Esper list.

The explanations are super simple and do not need to drawn out. Jace shines best in a deck that supports white cards. Path and Supreme Verdict go a long way in keeping this guy alive, and ultimately if you do that, you win. Path is just too versatile to ignore or be compared with other removal like [card]Terminate[/card] or [card]Fatal Push[/card]. The traditional deck would be UW Control but we face one small problem, a problem brought to light by Pascal Maynard in his UB Jace control video. He mentioned that Jace does not want to be in a deck with counterspells. This forces you to either give up your winning edge (not playing land-go) and it doesnt even encourage playing Jace when you want to. It forces you to wait until you have to.

This is why Black is an important color for a Jace deck. Discard spells are better for Jace because they give you the information you need in order to successfully cast and play Jace. Brainstorm is why Jace is broken in eternal formats, but i strongly believe that his +2 will be the go to in Modern. Unfortunately, this decision will come out of fear rather than logic, and the discard spells will help change that. If you can see what theyre holding, not only will it let you play jace when you want to, but it will also allow you choose intelligently which of his powerful modes to choose from.

please ask me anything or point something out that you disagree with. other than that, enjoy the deck. (Sideboard to come later)
