Jeleva Doomsday/Storm - Adapted from Moxnix

Commander / EDH Storm UBR (Grixis)

Sideboard

Maybeboard

This list serves as a carefully thought out update to Moxnix's Jeleva Doomsday/Storm list, which was not maintained after 2017. What I would like to do is to maintain the character of the original list and play it in the current cEDH meta and make observations along the way. Like restoring a historical monument, all changes to the original list will be strictly evaluated and documented according to my style/meta. All cards being considered before playtesting will be held in the Maybeboard. Cards that were removed will be placed in the Sideboard.

Aether Revolt: This set brought us Paradox Engine, which warped the format. A few years later, tons of decks (even casual lists) ran Paradox engine with rocks/dorks until it was finally banned. Baral for LD Vault was the last change Moxnix made, which was documented in a podcast, but not on the mtgsalvation list. I started evaluating cards from this set onwards. Lim-Dul's Vault --> Baral, Chief of Compliance

Amonkhet: This set gives us By Force. In early turns, artifacts rarely have hexproof so targeting them is not too difficult. This card slows down some decks, but does nothing against dorks. I supposed you could send your artifacts to the yard before using Yawgwin, but seems like too big a mana investment for what we want to do.

Hour of Devastation: This set gave us Abrade, which is a toolbox card for removing artifacts and hatebears who impede our gameplan. This can remove Thorn of Amethyst but doesn't affect Rule of Law or Eidolon of Rhetoric. I believe this deck already runs enough countermagic/bounce to deal with these type of effects and I also wouldn't want to see Abrade during a storm turn. Also, another red pip. Pass.

Ixalan

Rivals of Ixalan

Dominaria: We have to deal with Damping Sphere now, but it's nothing different from Rule of Law type of cards

Core 2019

Guilds of Ravnica

Ravnica Allegiance

War of the Spark: Broken set. Narset's Reversal stands out here as functionally similar to Unsubstantiate and Remand with regards to reusing storm payoff cards. It also has a swingy aspect to it as you can steal and Adnaus or Tutor. 2 blue pips is tough, but I like the card and it seems like a control card that is relevant in many situations

Core 2020

Throne of Eldraine: Wishclaw Talisman competes with Grim Tutor's slot. There are some big differences, but I like Talisman better. It helps with Metalcraft and is great with Turnabout and bouncing/recasting.

Theros Beyond Death: Thassa's Oracle is different from Labman, but seems to work well with Doomsday piles. Anticipating a like for like swap here. Underworld Breach is an amazing looking card. There are some combos with this card and anything that can fill up the yard.

Ikoria

Core 2021: Peer into the Abyss is a massive draw spell, but I don't know how I feel about this getting countered. Miscast looks very interesting.
