Hello everyone, I'm back again with another Standard brew after several long years of not touching the format at all. Of course, it's because of the Return to Return to Ravnica.

There are a ton of sweet cards in this set that open up control decks to a ton of proactive play, and this list tries to focus on a few of those by splashing Red in a UW shell.

So far this list has five 5-0 finishes in the Competitive Constructed queue on Arena, and 1 7-0 finish in the metagame queue, with several 4-2 CC and a few 6-1 Meta finishes as well.

(Update: The deck currently sits at nine 5-0 finishes in Competitive Constructed, 13-2 in random games, and I managed to get another 7-0 finish in the meta challenge before it ended.

With how prevalent Aggro decks currently are in Standard, especially Arena, this variant of Control looks to take a more proactive approach to dealing with those aggressive threats, rather than mostly reactive responses like the U/W of old.

Updated list 10-22-2018:

The list has been updated to what feels like a much better main 60 and a more streamlined 15 card sideboard.

The key matchups are aggro variants, and the changes to the 75 reflect this very blatantly.

Aggro is once again dominating the format, and since I play against it a lot, I need to prepare.

The archetype is already very strong against slower midrange builds and stompy, since my 1-for-1 power is off the charts while still being able to frequently clear the board.

4x Deafening Clarion is still mandatory, and it is still likely one of the best spells in the format, let alone this deck.

This aggressive change to the main 60 provides the deck with a clear and direct win condition beyond Teferi, with Ionize, Lightning Strike, and Explosion being able to quickly close out games against unwary opponents.

I'll continue refining the build and I'll hope you will all return for the next update!

Main deck changes:

Cards added: Lightning Strike, Justice Strike, Lava Coil

Cards with numbers modified: Blink of an Eye, Search for Azcanta, Chemister's Insight, Negate

Cards removed: Opt, Cleansing Nova, Ixalan's Binding

Reasons for change: Format is incredibly fast and swingy. Main 60 needs to be able to quickly react to aggressive creature-based decks and also be able to 1-for-1 threats until I can defend a cast or resolved Teferi.

Next likely direction: As Golgari and Izzet Spells continue to increase in popularity, the deck will likely need to have access to graveyard hate to stop Izoni decks and Arclight Phoenixes.

I'll be planning to test sideboard answers in competitive throughout this week, hopefully I get the correct matchups for proper testing.

I'll continue to update from here on out somewhat regularly, mostly depending on whenever I feel the need to alter the deck.
