Jeskai Control Primer

Control decks will always exist. The make-up of these decks may not be obvious immediately, but they will always exist.

The goal of a control deck is to 1-for-1 in the early game to gain minor tempo advantages, then 2-for-1 to gain larger tempo gains until you have enough mana to drop your game-winning "bomb".

Early Game

We will start the game with a scry land. Following that, we can play another scry land or Mystic Monastery to set us up with a turn 3 Anger of the Gods or Mantis Rider .

Our goal here is to just 1-for-1 everything, which includes Lightning Strike-ing creatures instead of burning the face.

Late Game

Elspeth, Sun's Champion : This should be obvious by now. Elspeth finishes games. It is that simple.

We will win by having superior card advantage.

Updates Add

Round 1 - Abzan Midrange

Game One

I never drew a board sweeper or Elspeth or Sarkhan. My burn was pointless.

Game Two

I kept a one land hand and he thoughtseized my only play. Stupid of me.

0-1

Round Two - Rabble Red

Game One

I didn't see any burn and I only saw big spells. Naturally, I lost this one.

Game Two

Burn baby burn!! Every single creature he played got burned. Elspeth and Sarkhan were the only ones remaining. I kicked his ass.

Game Three

Same story as Game Two. Elspeth for the win.

1-1

Round Three - Sultai Delve

Game One

This matchup was a joke. Destroyed his deck.

Game Two

Same as Game One. Answered everything then Elspeth won.

2-1

Round Four - Mono-Black Aggro

Game One

I just happened to draw just enough burn for his creatures. Close game, but Elspeth came through for me.

Game Two

Game one and two were very similar, except he drew Hero's Downfall for both Elspeth. I had no chance after that.

Game Three

After the first few turns, I had 3 Magma Spray, 2 Lightning Strike, and 3 Magma Jet in my graveyard. I had so much burn. He had no chance. I ended up using 3 Dig Through Time to pull Elspeth and a counterspell back-up, so I could get rid of any Hero's Downfalls. Brimaz ended up winning this one by himself.

3-1

I got third place. The guy who beat me in round one ended up placing first with 4-0.

All in all, pretty good. I decided to put Brimaz in the main board, since I sideboarded him in every game. I'm adding semi-off color fetch lands to help fuel Delve. And I'm adding Magma Spray to the main board to help against my Game 1 against aggro.
