INTRODUCTION

EVERYBODY knows about the Saheeli Rai + Felidar Guardian infinite combo, but there are many different archetypes to build with the combo. This deck focuses on the main win-condition of a control deck, with the Saheeli Rai combo as a secondary win-condition.

This deck went 3-0 on its first time at FNM! Check out the matchups in the Updates section below!

PLANESWALKERS

I run 3 copies of Saheeli Rai in the mainboard for the secondary win condition. Her +1 ability is also quite good for card filtering (though Anticipate is still the premium card filtering spell). Some decks run 4, but like I have mentioned before; the infinite combo is only a secondary win condition. You should by no means feel pressured to pull the combo to win off every game.

Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is such a huge threat your opponents cannot ignore him. This adds pressure on the board for your opponent to remove Gideon, and can set you up for an uninterrupted combo for the win.

CREATURES

Felidar Guardian is the other half of the combo. I run 3 of them in the main board. The reason I do not run 4 copies is because of the control shell I have built around the combo. Removing a Saheeli Rai and a Felidar Guardian does not really affect your game plan that much, and the addition of 2 more counterspells are very welcome in the deck.

Spell Queller, necessary in the main board. The card acts like an early game "safety net". With Smuggler's Copter banned, Liliana, the Last Hope is going to hit the board on Turn 3 in most of your games against UB Control or BG Delirium if you do not have a negate in hand. This is a card that ensures you are not going to be quickly overrun by aggro decks, and prevents early planeswalker threats from hitting the board.

Torrential Gearhulk is a staple in ever control deck. Nothing much to say here.

COUNTERSPELLS & REMOVAL

No control deck is ever complete without Anticipate. This card is the best filtering card and helps out in smoothing out your draw. Never play fewer than 2 copies of Anticipate in a control deck.

Disallow is the new Void Shatter of the format. It is an unconditional Counterspell that can even counter Triggered and Activated Abilities, making it more versatile compared to Void Shatter. Of course, Void Shatter prevents your opponent from graveyard interaction, so feel free to swap them out for Void Shatter, but in my opinion, Disallow is still a better Counterspell than Void Shatter.

Updates Add

Wow. It wasn't expected, and the deck was more consistent than I thought it was. Here's the rundown of the 3 games-

Game 1 vs B/G Counters (2-0):

Match 1: basically turn 4 combo. Played Saheeli on Turn 3 since my opponent's board state was a Nissa, Voice of Zendikarfoil and a Plant Token. I used Saheeli's +1 and scry a Felidar Guardian to the top. Needless to say, my opponent tapped out on the following turn. Next match.

Match 2: I decided to try out sideboarding out my combo pieces and go for a more control styled matchup. In the end, my opponent got Colour screwed and I was able to close out the game with Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Torrential Gearhulk beat down.

Game 2 vs B/G Delirium Counters (2-1)

Match 1: Saheeli Rai and Felidar Guardian in my opening hand with an Anticipate to get the fourth untapped land on turn 4. Easiest game of my life.

Match 2: My opponent sideboarded in Lost Legacy and took out my Saheeli Rai. The beat down was real that game.

Match 3: Was a close game; my opponent had me at 7 health, with a Verdurous Gearhulk and a Grim Flayer with Delirium active. I was staring at lethal on the board. At his EOT, I Glimmer of Genius into a Fumigate, which managed to stall the game and led to win via Torrential Gearhulk beat down featuring Spell Queller.

Game 3 vs 4c Vehicles (2-0)

Match 1: I had combo in hand and drew a land. Ended the game with the combo by turn 4.

Match 2: This match was quite close. My opponent sideboarded in Authority of the Consuls and I had the combo sitting in my hand. I also had to mulligan to 6 and scry a Nahiri, the Harbinger to the bottom, cause I thought his deck would be more aggressive. MISTAKE. Anyway, the game was won because of a small misplay my opponent made by using Shock on my 2 loyalty Saheeli Rai instead of my life total. I won the game with 1 life remaining and through, as you guessed, Torrential Gearhulk beat down.

In conclusion, I think this deck could definitely use more fine tuning, but it's definitely a strong deck to bring to FNM, if you are willing to pay the price of the Singles in the deck. With the meta slowing down after the ban cards, I won't be surprised if this deck is in the Top 8 of the Pro Tour Aether Revolt.
