Reverberate maybe?

Just remember, Guttersnipe only Triggers when you 'cast' an Instant/Sorcery.

In that sense, copying anything with Dual Casting would not Trigger Guttersnipe a second time.

Going off Kirtanei, put the Increasing Vengeance from your Maybeboard in place of Dual Casting .

Also, since you only have four creatures total (Guttersnipe ) you'll be very susceptible to removal. How about adding some more or Cackling Counterpart to pack some more punch with those Guttersnipe s?

With the amount of spells you're using as well, how about Talrand, Sky Summoner ?

I think I will replace Dual Casting with Increasing Vengeance . Cackling Counterpart is a very interesting idea... I like the idea of having more than 4 guttersnipes available. I will try that.

I have 2 Talrand, Sky Summoner lying around, I didn't even think about using them! I think I will drop Mind Sculpt and Annihilating Fire to add in these.

What about card:Talrand's Invocation? That could be a very useful spell with Talrand, Sky Summoner out and a Reverberate in hand!

I do like card:Talrand's Invocation. It's 4 flying power for 4 mana. That's pretty good for blue and especially if you can Reverberate or Increasing Vengeance it.

However in junction with Talrand, Sky Summoner I could probably suggest something like Think Twice . Cheap spells are really good with Talrand, Sky Summoner and Guttersnipe since you can throw off a lot of them and get the effect from the creatures, whereas you'd take expensive, heavy spells for their own effects.

Take Think Twice with them, for instance, it's suddenly 2 CMC for; draw a card, put a 2/2 Drake token with flying into the battlefield and deal 2 damage per Guttersnipe .

But of course... With Chandra, the Firebrand that could prove to be quite the bomb to drop.

Should I go with Think Twice over Reforge the Soul ? I have a playset of both cards, so I could easily do either (or both).

I definitely want card:Talrand's Invocation in here, I think I will put that in in place of Cackling Counterpart . This shifts the focus towards drake tokens and away from guttersnipe, but that's okay with me.

Reforge the Soul gives THEM options. I'd say cut that.

November 5, 2012 4:26 p.m.

I cut Reforge the Soul . I really like the card, but not in this deck. Added 2 Mercurial Chemister (got them in a trade) and have been very satisfied with them so far. I would normally mulligan if I had a Thunderous Wrath in my opening hand, but now I can save them to use as a discard effect with the Chemister. Otherwise he is an excellent draw engine.

But what about Mono-blue Master of Waves and Thassa, God of the Sea ? Mono blue is still too strong for this to win. Then again, I have been seeing more reanimator types lately.

February 21, 2014 4:23 p.m.

Against Master of Waves I side in Electrickery and Anger of the Gods . Yes, they will have a 2/1 that I cannot destroy, but I can deal with the tokens he puts out very easily.

I don't really have an answer to Thassa, God of the Sea . What red card can deal with it?

February 21, 2014 4:54 p.m.

DrLitebur says... #15

If Thassa, God of the Sea were a creature, and to be hit by Anger of the Gods then something like Searing Blood or even Shock , that will get rid of her, because she will be exiled.

February 21, 2014 5:12 p.m.

Thanks for pointing that out, DrLitebur. I didn't think of using Anger of the Gods in such a way. With Pyromancer's Gauntlet out Anger of the Gods will be doing 5 damage anyway.

February 21, 2014 5:28 p.m.

Nemaros says... #17

It won't work, because anger only exiles if it was going to die, and thassa is indestructible..
Also, you may want to think about keeping firedancer in against angry, mono white type strategies especially

February 21, 2014 9:02 p.m.

Against aggro strategies I will side out Guttersnipe and Satyr Firedancer , while bringing Anger of the Gods and Electrickery /Fated Conflagration in. I love Electrickery when combined with Pyromancer's Gauntlet .

In mono red, I'd think you'd be able to out burn your opponents before anything with "indestructible" would be a problem. Even so, I'm brainstorming of solutions lol.

I'm building something similar, and I'm sure I may run into the same problem in a match, so I'm trying to think of an effective way to deal with it within the realms of mono red.

The only thing that comes to mind right now is maybe sideboarding Wild Ricochet and using it to copy an opponents spell that would exile or -x/-x a permanent/creature/enchantment.

Also, any thoughts on Homing Lightning against token aggro?

TrollNtrample says... #20

I know the linked picture there is an older, no longer standard, link of Wild Ricochet . But it was reprinted in M14.

February 24, 2014 3:23 p.m.

I have thought about Homing Lightning . Even mainboarding 1 or 2 copies wouldn't be too bad. Redirecting and copying someone's Hero's Downfall would be pretty awesome.

Homing Lightning is a great card for token aggro. I prefer Electrickery as it is much cheaper, doesn't rely on names, and destroys the tokens that give me the most trouble (2/1 Elementals from Master of Waves and 1/1 Soldiers from Elspeth, Sun's Champion ).

February 24, 2014 3:45 p.m.

I meant Wild Ricochet instead of Homing Lightning in my first paragraph.

TrollNtrample says... #23

Sure, there's a lot of uses you could use with the redirect and copy.

But yea, the question about Homing Lightning was more of an idea I've been toying with and wanted to hear your thoughts about it.

I've just ran into problems with Spear of Heliod and mass tokens, plus other blanket token +1/+1 effects. I wasn't sure if you've ever had the same problem, and what, if anything, you do to help regulate this problem. Because without the gauntlet, Electrickery is only popping for 1, overloaded or not. Also, there's Mizzium Mortars you can overload, but that's pretty expensive, and may be harder to shoot out in a bind.

February 24, 2014 5:01 p.m.

I mostly just use Anger of the Gods against Spear of Heliod + Token decks. 3 damage is usually enough to deal with tokens, and if it isn't then I always can overload Mizzium Mortars (at twice the CMC though).

Now that I think about it, Electrickery rarely makes it out of my sideboard. Maybe I should look to use something else.

Nemaros says... #25

If you take out firedancer against aggro, what do you actually use it for? Because as far as I'm concerned firedancer does its best work against other aggro strategies
