Gorgosaurusrex: Yeah, Crackling Doom has ruined my day on occasion...

Crackling Doom is one of the main reasons why I run 3 Dispel in the sideboard. That and counterspells.

Do you guys think 26 land is too much for this deck? I'm not sure if I want 25 or 26. I'm thinking about using Crux of Fate in the sideboard which would require 26 land if I'm running it alongside Dragonlord Ojutai and Silumgar, the Drifting Death. Thoughts?

26 lands might be 1 too many. I have a similar build here, and I run some of the 6-drop dragons.I've found that I haven't needed Crux of Fate. Against aggro decks, it's too slow, and Radiant Flames is a better choice. Against Esper Dragons, Ojutai's Command, Crackling Doom, and Foul-Tongue Invocation should be more than enough.

How do you like the Mantis Riders? I tossed one into my deck to try him out. I really like him, but I've found it's very hard to get a turn 3 Mantis Rider and turn 4 Thunderbreak Regent. Also, how about Dragonlord Ojutai? I really want to run him, but I have Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury as my 5-drop. He seems very underwhelming for my style of deck, which is a little more beat down. I may swap 1 out for the other. Convince me :P

I played in a tournament last week and was never able to cast Crux of Fate due to the double black requirement. I'm going to remove the 2 from my sideboard for 1 Dragonmaster Outcast and 1 more Radiant Flames.

Mantis Rider is easily one of the best cards in the deck. I would never consider running less than the full 4. Sequencing lands becomes a problem when you want a T3 Mantis Rider followed by a T4 Crackling Doom, but I've found my manabase to be resilient and versatile enough for these situations.

Dragonlord Ojutai is an absolute beast. It's such a good card that wins games if not answered immediately. I like how agressive Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury is though, and have been considering a 2-2 split between it and Ojutai. I don't want more than 4 5-drops I think.

Link your deck and I'll take a look at it, johnsonr88. Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury might be the better choice for you.

I have discovered that if Dragon Tempest it's in board Drana, Liberator of Malakir is better than Mantis Rider. If No Dragon Tempest or if you need a fast Wall, mantis is better. But Drana improves your dragons up to Toughness 5, so they will resist Languish or biger stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I like Drana, Liberator of Malakir but not in this deck. is very difficult for me to get consistently, but for Mantis Rider is pretty easy.

Drana, Liberator of Malakir is not an adequate replacement for Mantis Rider anyway. It doesn't have haste or vigilance on the card. I don't want to play bad cards (Dragon Tempest) to make good cards better - I'd rather just play good cards! Vigilance and haste on a flying creature are both very relevant in the current standard. Mantis Rider is one of the last cards that I'd consider cutting from this deck.

Gorgosaurusrex are you doing to do any updates for OGW? I just found this deck and I really like it.

FierceTierce: I've been out of Standard for a few months but I can definitely get this deck updated. I want to play it for a month before rotation anyway.

Your deck doesn't seem bad... but name completely misleading (I gather that the deck has taken a completely different turn since sets fell out). You should change the name of your deck from to better reflect what it is now. You are now an Izzit Tutelage deck.
