That's a good idea Femme_Fatale...especially if one or more people ask the same question or have the same comment. I can just point them to the correct update. At least updates are on "drop downs" so it would save some space. Good idea!

Narset, Enlightened Master would be a great fit in this deck, but Alas! a 6 mana drop isn't exactly ideal...

Is there a reason for Narset, Transcendent not being in the list?

April 6, 2015 10:10 p.m.

I think she didn't end up in the list due to the number of creatures in the deck making her +1 not as reliable as it would be in a deck with fewer creatures.

Is there anything close to being as good as snapcaster mage that could fill the spot? 50 bucks a pop isn't really in my budget.

sadly that would be why they are 50 dollars

I used these some of these concepts in my existing jeaskai deck, and am already noticing outstanding performance changes. Thank you CurdBrosBrewingCo!

Sorry for the delays in changes/updates guys...I ended up getting diagnosed with skin cancer; however had a successful surgery and have spent the last couple weeks healing up! Between that and the birth of my baby boy; it's been a lot to deal with the last couple months (most of it good though!) I have no room to complain. I have a great life. I just didn't want anyone to think I wasn't interested in their thoughts or their brews...because I most certainly am!

Wouldn't it be better to have preordain instead of serum visions in order to better manipulate what you draw? They both can dig 3 deep.

Femme_Fatale says... #12

Preordain is not modern legal jimmywilakers.

I'm fairly new, what is the difference between the formats? I don't really know how they work, except for standard.

May 13, 2015 7:46 p.m.

Modern consists of sets from 8th edition forward (so currently everything printed in 8th and after up to Dragons). It does not include supplemental products like Commander (unless of course a card within a commander product is a re-print of an already Modern-Legal card).

You can play any and all cards from those sets except a few that have been banned (for various reasons). The banned list can be found on Wizards website; however if you google "MTG Modern Banned List" you will get it. Also, on Gatherer, you can set search parameters for "Modern" under format; and if you find a card you like you can look it up, click "sets & legality" and it will tell you whether it Modern Legal or not.

That's awesome that you picked up on a superior card though! Shows you're thinking deeply and analyticaly about the deck!

May 15, 2015 12:33 a.m.

Even recent cards can be on the ban list to jimmywilakers...just recently both Dig Through Time and Treasure Cruise were banned in Modern. Generally, however, nearly every card in a standard set will make it into Modern...most Brewers (ourselves included) prefer Modern because you get a large card pool like other Eternal Formats without the "turn 1 wins" and absolutely broken situations that can occur in Legacy and Vintage.

If I don't want to buy Snappy Caster, is there another somewhat decent card I could run in its place? Maybe a Young Pyromancer?

May 15, 2015 9:28 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #17

Just remember that budgeting an inherently expensive makes your deck inferior, so by not buying the Snapcaster Mages, your deck won't be as good. But yes, Young Pyromancer is a fairly decent alternative. Also to note that Snapcaster Mage isn't going to go down any time soon, it's just going to go up and up and up as they are used in every eternal format ever, so best to buy them when you can.

Glad to see the deck is doing well still. I was wondering what you think of Nivmagus Elemental. Possibly in place of grim lavamancer. Elemental can eat every spell you cast, and prowess still triggers because it's when a spell is cast, rather than when it resolves, and you can eat spells that are countered by your opponent.. Also, nivmagus comes online immediately, and you can use his ability asap to eat your spells, rather than having to wait to use lavamancer until the turn After casting him due to the fact that you need to tap him And pay mana to use his ability.

Khaosknight- That is an awesome idea. I will definitely give that a try and see how it plays out. I love having very powerful one ofs in the deck that can end games quickly.

The deck was featured on this weeks reconstructed article by Gavin Verhey on Wizards.com!

But if you put it in for lavamancer you have nothing you can use your massive graveyard with.

Glad to see the deck is still doing well. I was playtesting it though, and I have a question. Do you have any consistancy issues, what with all the one ofs? Also, it seems like there a lot of "cute" cards that may impact the speed and effectiveness of the deck. I may be wrong, but one thing I've learned is that consistancy is key.

I'm on board with Jeskai! :) I have posted a very rough list of what I'm starting with on my page. You have a much more aggro approach where as mine is definitely midrange. I love how extensive the primer is and will definitely be reading it as my day progresses. I completely forgot about chandra! So that's a card I'll definitely consider for the 75.

I may lean towards the more aggro approach but I really want to make both geist and Mentor work in a deck so odds are it will stay closer to midrange build. I just got started so I haven't been able to test anything but I'm excited to have another deck at my disposal.
