I've been playing a Jeskai build of a deck featuring Thing in the Ice
and Pyromancer Ascension for about 2 years now and I've found Thing Ascension to do well in every environment I've put it in. This deck is able to win from nowhere and make insane comebacks versus the worst possible matchups.
This deck has proved to be competitive while being very fun.
This deck wins by either flipping
Thing in the Ice
into the beast of a 7/8 and bound your opponents creatures and/or activating
Pyromancer Ascension to
Lightning Bolt,
Lightning Helix, or in some cases,
Thought Scour your opponent to death.
Some sweet synergies lie beneath these cards such as using Remand to keep up the storm and to recycle Bolts to chain more damage together.
You can pretty much do anything you want with this deck from here. For those who don't have their graveyard hated and love absolutely busted cantrips, I would suggest you cut a
Remand and 3
Faithless Looting to put in
Visions of Beyond that almost always functions as an
Ancestral Recall.
For those who love aggro, Bedlam Reveler ran smoothly in the place of Snapcaster Mage as a two and three of, so if you love the playstyle of similar strategies, namely, Mardu Pyromancer, then Bedlam Reveler is the card for you.
Of course, you can pop in Engineered Explosives in the side instead of Stony Silence and maybe throw in a Path to Exile, but the sideboard's pretty solid.
Lastly, if you have money for Scalding Tarn, then you can cut on Arid Mesa and run them instead.
Thank you for reading. If you have any suggestions or concerns, please leave them in the comments.
