Jeskai Turbo Fog

Modern*

Sideboard

Prelude

Another attempt at Turbo Fog, this time in Jeskai colors . The strategy remains the same: fog the board of lethal damage, put down draw engines to retrieve fogs and dig to win-cons. The other elements of the deck include burn, removal and a splash of control. Below is a breakdown of the different corners of the deck. Feel free to leave constructive feedback, as the deck is a work in progress.

Turbo

  • Ancestral Vision provides three cards for one mana. Interacts with As Foretold for free casting, which improves even more with Mission Briefing

  • Fevered Visions was the reason for splashing . Arguably our best turbo as it doubles as a slow burn/win-con.

  • Howling Mine, the staple turbo: not subject to color restrictions and nets us (and our opponent) an extra card per turn. Gets better the more we have down.

  • Jace Beleren is a Temple Bell with variety. Double blue is restrictive, but should be possible with enough shocks and checks.

  • Risk Factor doesn't have a bad option. Change my mind.

  • Search for Azcanta   is not a real Turbo, but provides card advantage which digs for fogs and counters on the flip and filters card draw until then.

Jace, the Mind Sculptor or Jace, Memory Adept as an upgrade for Beleren, but wayyy out of budget for now.

Fogs

  • Ethereal Haze, another key fog effect, notably for its ability to prevent all damage from roundabout creature damage in hard match ups such as Grim Lavamancer and Walking Ballista.

  • Dawn Charm provides fog for one extra mana, but offers versatility to counter Burn spells and regenerate our creatures against removal.

  • Angel's Grace, not a true fog, but saves us against combos or lethal damage from non-creature sources.

  • Intimidation Bolt combines removal and fog in one.

For the Win!

  • Kefnet the Mindful is Turbo Fog's greatest upgrade in awhile. Large, evasive, indestructible threat with an option for card draw in a pinch. If we don't have 7 cards in hand, we are playing the deck wrong.

  • Teferi, Hero of Dominaria gives us draws and mana on the Up, removal on the Down, and a win on the Ultimate. Our best option for control.

Thing in the Ice  , play early, flip later. Ticks down with fogs and puts pressure on our opponent Might need more instants/sorceries to really push its effectiveness.

Crackling Drake can come down huge in the late game and cantrips on ETB. Probably not a big enough threat in this shell, but I love it and will consider it after playtesting.

Control

  • Cryptic Command as a strict upgrade, plus the pseudo fog option when tapping down all creatures.

  • Mission Briefing lets us cut down on the amount of fogs and offers flexibility in recasting fogs, counters or protection in a pinch

  • As Foretold is mainly in the list for Ancestral Vision, but allows us to tap out for our bigger threats and still fog a turn after it comes down

Again, not sure what else. Suggestions?

Lands

Boseiju, Who Shelters All because uncounterable fogs and counterspells are wonderful

Mikokoro, Center of the Sea for turbo on a land

Geier Reach Sanitarium for filter on a land

Ghost Quarter removes the opponent's crucial lands

Reliquary Tower keeps the card advantage in our hand

Sideboard

Stony Silence for disruption against most meta-decks, especially one of our bad match-ups: Tron

Nezahal, Primal Tide & Thrun, the Last Troll provide a better finisher against control matchups. The former offers card draw, while the latter keeps our curve low with easier resilience to removal

Damping Sphere for decks that can cast more than us such as Gifts Storm or Titanshift

Considerations & Alternative Directions

Saved for later editing.

None yet, still brewing on these.
